Problem with Steam customer

Hi! It's my first time with Steam. I registered yesterday. I have a problem with Deus Ex (or maybe with Steam). Could you tell me, why when I want to play Deus Ex - click on play - steam told me that I should "run custom on Steam"? I did it yesterday and play about 20 minutes and today I can't. Is it mean, that everytime when I want to play on Steam I should register a game by inputing code from DVD? Please, help me.

try entering in the code into the product code spot when you right click the game, or add it to your registry manually

What does it tell you when you tried to launch the game the next day ? Like any error or message ?

Thank you guys, I even don't know exacly how, but I think I fix it. :) I mean yesterday I logout and after that steam download update and a game. (when I check update it say that it's the newest version) I enter my code and want to play - it doesn't work. I was confused so I restart computer. And voila - It works! I don't think that restarting computer is the only way to play on steam but for me - it works :) I say that becouse yesterday i have to restart computer one more time to play - after restart I can play. By the way - DEUS EX is AMAZING! :)

Toki - maybe it's foolish but I don't know how to do it manually ;/

Alec - it looks like a Windows message, it haven't any numbers like error 403 for example, but it looks simillar :)
