Firefrost is released! + tips about using upgrades

Firefrost is released!! Spectacular isn't it? Now that you can get your hands on the game, here is a bit about how to enjoy it as much as possible:

- Watch for enemy patterns and think about what upgrades to use to exploit those patterns. Each enemy type has a different pattern and every upgrades enables you to work with those patterns in different ways. For example, if you find an enemy type that often bunches up together, then using the explosive enemies upgrade could be a great way to deal with them!

- After you have tried the game, leave a steam review. This tells steam that the game is worth something and helps me out a lot <3

- Use modifiers!! At the start of a new game+ run you can select a modifier for that run. The game is quite easy by default, using modifiers is the way to push yourself to get really good at it. If you like roguelikes, then I highly recommend the Rogue modifier. Otherwise if you want to sob in agony then I recommend the Corruption modifier. You will not complain that the game is too easy after a run with that.

- Play multiple runs. Each new runs grants you a new upgrade and a new modifier, and your first run will only be dipping the toes into the tactical possibilities of Firefrost. I mean this is a game where dying is nothing, you just get back up. Use each run as an opportunity to learn, try new stupid ideas and combos, and push yourself to reach the highest ranks!

- Find upgrade combinations that you enjoy, and work well together. If you find yourself frequently running out of ammo then try the Recycler upgrade. And if you want to be able to take out multiple enemies even when they are aiming at you, try the Bullet Time upgrade. There are a few options, make sure to use them!

- Record your run. It's way easier to spot your mistakes when your brain isn't occupied with actually playing the game. If you find it really difficult to get the rank you want then this might be worth a try. Bonus points for uploading your run to Youtube.

- Again, review the game after you have tried it! It doesn't matter if it's positive or negative, just that it's there. It both shows steam that the game is worth showing to more players, but also tells me what I can improve with the game and work on in the future!

Now pick up the flamethrower, choose your upgrades and get that soup!

Demo Feedback

Really well made demo. Nice to see a PICO-8 game on Steam! Well executed, simple idea with raising difficulty curve. If I had a nitpick, I would say that second flamethrower doesn't feel as unique as the two other (maybe it somehow didn't get picked but when I chose it, exploding enemies didn't seem to do much) but hopefully addition of a few new weapons in full version will make out of that. Will certainly try to remember to take a look at the game after it is done. Good luck on the release!...

Turning a flamethrower into a sniper. And clearing snow.

Firefrost is a turn-based combat game about snow clearing. You can upgrade your flamethrower to give yourself some new, snazzy tactical options to remove enemies and snow from the face of the earth. The sniperthrower is a powerup that lets you pick off enemies from afar, and the bullet time modifier allows you to fire multiple times without time moving forwards.

I'll be trying both out for you to see!

About the game:
Firefrost is a turn-based combat game about snow clearing. Use your flamethrower to burn through the snow, your enemies, and reach soup. Upgrade your flamethrower to unlock new tactical options. If you die, just get up again, no progress lost. Chase the SSoup rank, unlock more upgrades.

Key features:

Flamethrower: the solution to the problem is always to burn the problem. The crux? You need your thrower to aim at the problem.
Make your own thrower: use upgrades for longer range, double shots (throws?) and exploding enemies to enable new tactical options. Put together your own combination of upgrades, and strive to find the perfect combination.

Clearing snow with a flamethrower, aiming to reach the SSoup rank!

Firefrost is a turn-based combat game about snow clearing. Depending on how well you do on your run, you can get different ranks. There are also modifiers you can turn on in the start of the game to make the game more difficult. I'm going to keep streaming until I've gotten the highest rank with all the modifiers.

This will be painful. Wish me luck <3

Steam Deck unplayable?

When I try to play on my deck, the menu selection works fine -- you can highlight menu choices with the D-pad or joystick, but nothing I tried would activate the selection. Couldn't get past the menu screen. Suggestions?
