Put Down That Match - How to stop Evucks from igniting Gas Giant?

Does anyone know how you stop the Evucks from igniting their planet after the countdown has started (for the Put Down That Match achievement)? I've successfully managed to get them to start the countdown.

However, if I take over their planet (using one of my Federation races), even though the countdown stops I don't get the achievement. Blowing up the planet with a planetcracker also doesn't give me the achievement.

Please help!

So, I stopped playing this game while waiting for a response to this. It's been 1.5 years. Anyone know now?

Similar to the Acutians launching their own planetcracker, it's only something they do if they're being attacked. You need to make some pretty drastic improvements to their situtation and make sure no one is at war with them in order to convince them to stop.
