Is shot direction a lottery?
I've played TGC on early access since build 0.30 was released and have clocked up 228hrs since.

I use as Xbox 360 wireless controller, and have never really had any problems with the golf swing. Occassionaly under powered shots. The direction, was always straight and true to begin with, until the wind affected it, which is great.

Since build 0.60, this is no longer the case. In winds of 0-1mph, no matter how straight the stroke is (without any kinks in the display line), the shot is immediately off course, often moving between 20-30ft left or right on the intended landing area. On occasion I hook the swing left or right, and it goes straight... WTF.. In heavy winds, the game is almost unplayable.

You would expect your shot to go straight if the swing was perfect and had no wind to contend with, but instead it seems like a lottery.

I have tested a few other xbox controllers with the same results.

Do other players have this problem? Could someone or HBLorin possibly help?

HBLorin, if you're reading this, I remember somewhere you mentioned to add the shot number, course and hole to check it out.. shot 1, Hole 1, the forum country club, PGA Tour - week 6. Aimed to the right, shot went left with a straight stroke.. wind was 4mph.

Otherwise, thank you HB for a great game..

From flat lies with a true swing, the ball usually takes the intended line. I'm not sure what the issue would be for you if this isn't the case when you play.

Thanx Rob92... I am aware of the ball being above or below your feet. I should have mentioned I am specifically talking about tee shots.

Tee shot is generally longer..1W....ball in air longer.. wind acts on it for longer period of time leading to more distance variation...i expect you account for this? I have recently given a little more error to compensate for tee shots. Iron shot is different,... in the higher loft affects differently but shorter distance leads to overall less deviation in ball flight because of wind due to time in air and what not. I feel i have a good guage on how the wind will effect my ball flight per club and shot type.

Tees are sometimes sloped.

almost striaght isnt straight ;)

My question for Lorin is... Are winds theme dependant...in that the links is most often high wind...rural low. alpine is w/e? ..?

Hey brionne - I will take a look at that shot when we get a moment (just launched PS4 so we are a bit busy :) )...but, if your ball is going 30 feet in one direction with no wind and a straight line, my guess is the tee box is slightly off kilter. It is almost imperceptible to the naked eye, but we have found that, if designers don't take care to flatten their tee boxes, it can cause some deviation off of the tee. that being said, I will check out that shot.

@Myagony - they will tend to be stronger on the Links theme, as it is..well, Links, and it is the only theme with an extended wind cap of 22 mph :)

@Myagony and @HB Lorin. Thank you guys... I assumed since the ball is elevated with a tee, it is not lying on an angle and all tee boxes are flat. I never checked whether the character's feet are above or below the ball. Perhaps you are correct and this is the cause of my downfall

@HB Lorin - Thank you for your continued help and support with TGC

This is a point I have tried to make myself so I am delighted to see someone else finally bring it up.

about the tee being sloped... check the tee markers if you can. it will give you visual.. not always because it could be very slight or just sloped where your golfer is standing.
