Game does not run / "launcher.exe has stopped working..."

What's Happening

When you click "Play" from Steam, the game doesn't run. It may pop up a window that is all white or it may not. An error message is displayed that says "launcher.exe has stopped working..." or "Super Motherload Launcher has stopped working..."

What's Really Hapening

The video adapter Super Motherload is trying to use does not fully support all of the OpenGL features necessary for the game to run. Super Motherload by default will use OpenGL to draw to the screen but can be changed to Direct3D in the launcher. Direct3D support requires DirectX 11 to be installed.

Possible Reasons

You do not have an AMD Radeon or nVidia GeForce video adapter

If you do not have an AMD Radeon or nVidia GeForce video adapter you are probably having this problem.

Solution:

Switch the game to use Direct3D through the Launcher settings.

You have a computer with multiple video adapters (such as many Alienware or Dell XPS laptops)

Super Motherload may not be using your high performance GPU.

Solution:

If your second video adapter is an nVidia, you can configure your computer to use that video adapter instead of the default video adapter through the nVidia Control Panel[gaming.stackexchange.com].

As of 1.03.02, Super Motherload supports Direct3D as a rendering options. You can switch the game to use Direct3D in the Launcher (which now runs using Direct3D). Direct3D is compatible with more video adapters than OpenGL. Direct3D support requires DirectX 11 to be installed.

Be aware that Direct3D support in OpenGL does not draw in as high of a quality as OpenGL, and shows noticeable visual artefacts in resolutions smaller than 1920x1080. We still recommend using OpenGL if it works with your video adapter.
