What's wrong with Windows exactly? It is the #1 OS for gaming.
A linux port would be awesome but it will probably never happen.
Why? Because almost all games work only for windows? No, this isn't a reason. Let's say all games had also a Linux version. Why would be windows still better? I can't see it,
almost no1 uses linux so theres no profit for the game developing companys to invest into this dead OS + like sayed above by someone else why on earth whould microsoft the company behind windows make a version for linux/ios.
A dead OS? Everyone who I know who studied computer science, use Linux. I even know that the university in my city only let be people study something with computer, if they know how to work with Unix/Linux. And many servers and computers of research institutes are working with linux. Windows was/is desinged for people who didn't study computer science, such that, that even they can use a computer (it wasn't so easy to use a computer as it is today). Wich also means, that can't have the control over everything. Imagine Gary's Mod as Linux and Minecraft or Terraria as Windows.
After all, I don't really care much, because I have both, Linux and Windows, installed on my computer. I just working the most time with Linux. So it would be annoying to swtich all the time, only to play a game.
1.58% is pretty... dead.

Besides there's plenty of ways to run Windows stuff on Linux, this is mostly just Steam restricting us to what we can download.

It might be possible to install Windows-only games then. but idk, just speculation. However, AoM EX would not work due to it utilizing DirectX 10/11 features as specified in the requirements section. Wine just doesnt support D3D10/11.
As much as I like linux, there just is not enough incentive for the devs to undertake a massive task of porting the whole BANG engine.
You could consider starting up a petition if try and gain some support for it if you really wanted it, though this does not mean the developers will make a Mac / Linux port. They would only likely do it if they would benefit from the cost + resources allocated to doing it.
Do you realize that Microsoft Studios is also the publisher of Mark of the Ninja and Dust: An Elysian Tale? Both of which have Mac and Linux versions.
