Glitch in the cultist event in daikara

I got the cultist event in daikara, but for some reason instead of staying by thier monoliths, the cultists were all following me around once seen. Once I fully explored the area I had a big crowd of them around me. This actually got me killed when I tried to trigger the event by attacking one, as I then got attacked by all of them at once.

Sounds like something caused them to target you but didnt turn them hostile.
What race/class did you play?

I was an alchemist. Would it happen if they are hit by the bombs, even if they are immune to the bomb damage thanks to the second bomb skill?
