Linux - Alpha Test
Hello everyone

We apologize for the delay in getting the Linux version out there for you all. We do not have the biggest resources available in order to develop on all platforms at the same time and we must admit that we do not have a lot of Linux experience.

With this in mind we would like to officially announce that we are beginning Alpha testing for the Linux version and we need your help.

If you would like to help testing the game on Linux and you have the game in your Library (or have a key available) then post a comment here to let us know that you are testing it and follow the instructions below to begin.

Keep in mind that this will of course be an Alpha version and can and will most likely be prone to errors and issues in the beginning, and we can not guarantee it working fully.
Save files may be disabled after the Alpha test.

Hopefully we can quickly get the Linux version out there for everyone eager to play the game. =)

Linux Alpha Install instructions:
Short:
#1: Unlock the Linux Branch by using the password: "ILoveLinuxGaming"

Detailed:
#1: Right click on Earthlock in your Library and select Properties.
#2: Select the Betas tab at the top.
#3: Enter the password "ILoveLinuxGaming" and click the CheckCode button.
#4: You should see a message: "Access code correct, private beta 'dev-linux' is now available.
#5: In the dropdown list above select the "dev-linux" and the linux build should start downloading.
#6: If you do not see the "dev-linux" branch then you might need to restart Steam in order for it to pop up.

Looking forward to this.

Alright lets begin the Linux Alpha test. =) Instead of specific invites we have added the Linux to a branch which you can unlock with the password "ILoveLinuxGaming". I have added details to the original post. We do not actually have Linux installed on a machine here yet, so we do not even know if this version will download and run at all. So let us know if it works for you. =)

Great news! Is there a possibility to give a "free demo" to everyone in order to have much more testers? At least that way you can also have a good overview for about the first 15-30 minutes of gameplay. Don't know if this is a valid point at all; just saying.. :steamhappy:

Great you'r going to support Linux! Are you going to install Linux before releasing the Linux version? Or are you only waiting for responses from the Linux users?

@lovemytux Unfortunately we will not be giving out keys for this Alpha test. It is a bit of a mess when having to ban the keys after the alpha test is complete.

@Tijder We will absolutely test the Linux version ourselves here as soon as we have time. Currently we are working on a patch for the game for both Xbox and Steam.

@Biggs, Totally understand that. Thanks for the reply :)

I'm surprised you guys didn't mention this in the previous Kickstarter update. You'd get more testers that way, which i assume is something you actually need.

In any case i can report the game launches for me.
System Specs:
Arch Linux 64bit
i5-6500k
AMD Radeon R9 380 2GB using Mesa(git not stable)
Steam Runtime is enabled
The game does log a libCSteamworks.so error in the development console.
Will test further once i have some time

Thanks for confirming that it launches for you. We did finally get it up and running on a machine here as well and we are also getting the libCSteamworks.so error. Which means that the Steam plugin is not being initialized properly and any steam related tasks like Achievements and Stats will not work.

Mentioning the alpha test for the backers is a good idea, and we will include something in the next Update.

Would that be this issue[github.com]? I experienced that in a game I'm currently beta testing, and replacing libCSteamworks[github.com] made the error message go away (though I can't confirm if it actually fixed anything, since the game I'm testing doesn't have achievements or stats).

Achievements actually work. The game does crash on occasion, sadly both times i forgot to launch the game from the cmd line to gather more feedback. Iirc both times it happened immediatly after switching to combat mode. The Steam controller also works well with the game

See if you can find a file called Disharmonic_stdout.txt or something in /tmp/dumps/. Could contain some useful information if it's there.

Yeah, there wasn't anything useful in there.

In my most recent CTD there was only this in the terminal
"DispatchAsyncEvent backlog, failed to dispatch all this frame. Queue depth: 1327 (1329 input number was)"

If you want the Linux version to be reviewed contact those fine folks :

https://www.gamingonlinux.com/index.php

https://linuxgamecast.com/

Best news outlets for us linuxgamers so far

Also Linux game cast members can really give you some strong support to get you out of a hairy situation coding wise. They know the OS like the back of their hand so their feedback will be usefull ;)
