enemies in house?

I'm sure there is a thread about this. but I have sealed my home off (or so I thought) completely. yet these purple bugs keep finding their way into my house. after shooting the 30-40 bullets you start off with, there is no defending yourself unless you figure out the clunky crafting system. So. How can I make sure my home is sealed off from them? Or is it just fair game, come on in?

Shadow creatures spawn in low light areas. Keep your house well lit, and you should have no enemies spawning within the house.

ahhh thank you. I was waving my glowstick as hard as I could but I sure didn't try to place it on the ground lol. I'll try again and make sure to have it well-lit.
