High commercial buildings not importing their goods...why?
ok, i have lots of cargo railways , subway, no traffic jams...and suddenly high density commercial buildings are collapsing cuz of not enough goods to sell, so i entered 'outside connections tab in info views, and i found that 100% of those collapsing are NOT importing any goods from outside.(buildings importing their goods are fine.)

Any idea why they aren't importing goods?

high commercial buildings near industrial zones are fine, but i don't think this is problem since there are lots of trains, i mean A LOT. except road structure, buses, metro, railroad, harbor everything is fine, so i have no idea why this is happening. is there limit for importing goods in this game?

I don't know if there's a real limit or not, outside of what traffic allows to be delivered and truck bans preventing trucks from moving through an area.

There could be an unknown cap on imports but that seems unlikely. Check your traffic. See if your generic industry is trying to send delivery vans to your commercial and follow them. Maybe you just need to zone more industry.

You could also try setting up a cargo rail station near your commercial as that can also be used to import finished goods.

I had the same problem, so I followed some of the transports around and I found the main problems are that:

1. They dont use the nearest entrance to the city to get to their destination, I have seen it very often that goods transport will literally spawn on the other side of the map so they have to drive through your whole city.

So even though you might have a cargo railway next to the shop, they might spawn on the railway on the other side of the map.

2. They dont prioritrize highways, if the highway isnt literally the only way to get to the destination they will leave it at the first chance and use your city roads to get to their destination.

These two points not only help to further clog the innercity traffic, they also mean that even if the delivery truck can drive to the destination without stopping once, its destination might already be abandoned if you have a big city.

/edit: I also saw a few transports coming from my cargo port, instead of driving to their designated shop driving to the cargo railway on the other side of the map and unloading there, which could also cause goods not being delivered.

Build a regular industrial area. May not seem like you need it at first, but even a little bit helps a lot.

you are already the second person that complains about not having enough imports.

in case you already checked your traffic as stated aboven, try to build some specialized industry.

the production line is: specialized industry --> generic industry --> commercial
dont worry about iron/oil resources, you can build those anywhere you want an needed products will be imported (resource will run out quickly anyway).

if there is an import limit, you go better that way because your generic ind needs goods from specialized ones. the import limit should be on each resource needed for specific industry.

Taddl//I mean, 'Importing' not 'Transporting' like i said, railroad works fine, and those buildings which are importing their need are functioning very well, so it isn't the problem.

What i'm saying is that there are buildings that not importing goods and those buildings not near ind are dying, but still not importing there goods.

Yeah thats what I said importing goods means that somewhere on the map entrances a goods transporter is spawned that drives to the store and fills its storage. The truck imports goods from outside your city to a shop.

Brian//So you're saying i have to build more inds for the problem?

If so, my city's pops are over 150000, and most of em are highly educated and industry demands is pretty low compared to commercials. is there any way to solve this?(Even if I build residential zone far away from school(Habit from Sim city), the residents are highly educated)

I had 0 industry zoned in my city (I did have lots of offices). Which got huge (130k pop) and was running perfectly. No traffic problems anywhere, unemployment was low, harbor and cargo stations working very well, etc etc.

Then my commerce started showing issues of not having goods to sell. The import of goods capped at 13,000. It stopped at exactly that number. And I investigated areas all over the city and there were no other causes of my issue. That is when I had to zone my very first Industrial block. Zoning industry fixed the goods issue, though it had its own problems that dont directly relate to this thread. The point is, there is a cap of imported "goods" ( idk about products).

Does the amount of freight terminals affect the cap?
HighPR May 6, 2015 @ 4:51pm
I hadn't setup the area where I was going to place my next freight terminal. So instead I deleted terminals.

I had to get rid of all my industrial. Was importing everything again. As I deleted terminals it didnt affect the import cap. They just entered the city via a different way. I even tried the harbors, which do more work than my cargo trains. And still no change. I am pretty sure its a flat number. Obviously I could be wrong, these are just the results from my city.
