After Dark launch FAQ
Greetings Chirpies!

After Dark is upon us in just a matter of hours. Since you all probably have lots of questions - here's an FAQ. Please let me know if something is missing and I'll add it.

What is After Dark?
Our first expansion for Cities: Skylines adding a highly requested day/night cycle, tons of new gameplay and content! It is also a free major patch available for all players.

What's in the free version compared to the paid?
https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/after-dark-patch-notes-1-2-0.883183/

How much does it cost?
$14.99
£10,99
14,99€

Where can I purchase After Dark?
The expansion is available as DLC via Steam, the Paradox store and the vast majority of popular online retailers. Physical copies are available via select stores in Germany.

When is it available?
September 24. If the stars align and everything goes right we aim to launch at 15:00 CEST. Please follow us here for live updates: https://twitter.com/cities_pdx

Why are you giving away the night time for free, isn't that the biggest addition?
Our general policy is to not split our player base with updates. Since the vast majority of mods and custom assets will be updated to work during night we wanted everyone to have the same chance to enjoy all the great user created content!

Are there any known issues or major bugs?
We have spent a lot of time polishing this expansion and are not expecting many problems.
  • There is a problem with loading custom Airport assets
  • Taxis may sometimes disappear during extensive work shifts
  • Creating too many Styles with assets in them can cause performance issues.
  • Due to lots of new code many gameplay mods and custom assets may be incompatible or "broken" at launch. Please give modders ample time to update their creations.
If you encounter a problem not on this list, please post a thread here: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?forums/support-bug-reports.879/

My game/save/mod is broken, what do I do?
We have done our best to supply our modders with the tools and information needed to update their mod or asset prior to launch, yet it should be expected that a fair amount of user created content will need patching.

Please note that mods include both gameplay mods AND custom buildings!

We recommend using the steam launch options "-disableMods" and "-noWorkshop" if you encounter issues. This will disable UGC and let you run the game "vanilla".

Are there flying toasters?
No dude. That's an old screen-saver program. There's no drag either since you probably wanted to ask that next.

What's happening with the Xbox One version and W10 support?
Both are being worked on! We'll have updates on that in a not too distant future. Stay posted!

Cheers,
John

Any chance of a list of mods that have been worked on and are working while in testing before release?
SuperJim Sep 24, 2015 @ 3:04am

I'm going off memory here, but I seem to remember something similar asked in a AMA and the Modders who took part in the pre-release update is subject to NDA so their names are not available.

And if that is the case then a list of Mods that has been worked on is also unavailable.

My personal recommendation is to start a new City, check out the new features, see how the play style is changed. While that is happening check on the Mods you like to use to see if they've been updated by the creators.

I understand that but was kind of hoping as today is release day that a list of working mods could be published. The games patch notes was published yesterday so I do not see the problem with releasing info on which mods will work on release day.

I like the traffic mods and I'm itching to know if it will work now that we will have bikes and bike lanes.

If you don't like the market differences, look elsewhere. Personally I got my copy for 7£ with a voucher. :)

I think it was understood as "DirectX 12 support"
Which would be great.
