Creating your own ruleset
Is it easy? does it needs some programming knowledge? Does it allow to create a FULL new rpg system?

Me and my friends play "our own" table RPG, with our own rules, system and character sheet (in fact we´re testing a "beta" table rpg)

So, how flexible, and how complicated, is to create a full new RPG system with Fantasy Grounds?

It really depends on how much automation you want to have. You can modify a fair amount for a brand new character sheet using just the CoreRPG ruleset with zero coding.

Check this link:

In the video, I create a character sheet for All Flesh Must be Eaten; however, the same principals would apply to any type of character sheet. You can test that out fully with the demo license of Fantasy Grounds to see how it works for you. The only downside is that you won't be able to save your work after playing around with it for a bit.

To do a full ruleset which features lots of specific automation and graphics for the game system would typically require a firm understanding of programming logic and test strategies. The work consists of new graphic work, laying out the user interface in XML and then writing LUA scripts that perform automation when certain actions are done. This is extremely flexible because you can build practically any sort of game system you want to build. To paraphrase the old saying, nearly anything is possible given enough time and resources. The fantasy grounds website wiki has an entire section set aside for developers. It can get pretty complicated though, and I would not suggest it for anyone other than an advanced user with a strong programming background.

Thx, that was a deep and accurate answer.

And I added an Extension to CoreRPG that allows you to add Attack Strings (rollable/clickable Attacks and Damage) to all Actors in the GMs Combat Tracker and an option to add up to 4 columns to the GM View for tracking things like HP, Wounds, Armour Reduction etc.

You can do the Character Sheet in under an hour, over time you will expand and modify it. You can export it as a template and re-use over and over again without having to manually add fields for each user. Its really quite nice.

And here's documentation on how to make rulesets. http://www.fantasygrounds.com/wiki/index.php/Developer_Guides
