Alternate use for Asylum
I couldnt find anything regarding this, but I would love it if the asylum, instead of just another more difficult world, was an alternative to death... have a great playthrough but die by accident? go to the asylum, if you make it through, you resurrect where you died, if not, you respawn at the entrance.

Tell me if that seems crazy, but I totally thought thats what the asylum was for when I saw that you could resurrect there and collected soul orbs, I thought it was a way to go back.

Is this something that is doable with mods? because that would greatly improve the game in my opinion.

Sounds like a pretty cool idea!

Sadly the current modding support is based on the Eldritch source code that was released before the addition of the Asylum, so it cant be done with a mod right now.

There are also some details that would need to be figured out. E.G.
  • Would you need to get a certain number of souls to ressurect? Otherwise it'd be better to just rush to the exit, ignoring them - kinda ruining the point of the Asylum.
  • Would gear persist / would you get it back?
  • How would the medical kit work with it?
  • Would it be always enabled, or based on a power / artifact thing?

Good questions, here is what I was thinking.
  • The souls would be required, (possibly pieces of your soul that you needed to return, or a bribe for death) requiring a specific number to return. I wouldn't want to mess up the current balance of the Asylum, so as little impact as possible would be good, to that end, having a high enough soul requirement that you must either get the ability from the old gods, or go multiple floors in to harvest enough. Then, return to the Asylum lobby, a mirror could be placed there if you spawn directly to the Asylum, using it with enough souls returns you to your body.

  • If successful, you would return as if nothing had happened (A case could be made for -1 heart) leaving you with all gear you had at that point, but without the asylum gear.

  • Medical kit would not have to be altered in any way, it would just be another safety net.

  • I would say always enabled, potentially only once per life, but, honestly, if it were hard enough to do.. (I say make it a real challange, the harder the better) then it would balance itself, die in the Asylum, lose your chance to resurrect.

I would take death over an asylum run any day. That place terrifies me.

But maybe have the required amount of souls increase each time you try to revive, resetting to the original amount after an actual death?

This does sound like a cool idea, it would sorta add a Dark Soulsy type mechanic to the game.
