This game worth it?
I'm on the fence in whether I should buy Risk of Rain or VS: Abyssal City. They're both obviously different games, but i just love 2D platformer RPGS. What are some things that you don't like about this game? The video just looks so badass.

Most people complain about the difficulty being too hard, and then other people troll them for sucking at platformers and not learning the game's mechanics. So you are fixing to start a war by asking that question. There is a demo you can download(I think at Gamer's Gate) that will give you a decent idea of how the game plays and save you from the onslaught of conflicting opinions.

I don't mind difficulty, but thanks for the advice mate. I'm gonna check the demo out now.

Also keep in mind, that the developers are constantly improving on the game so the demo is a TAD bit dated in comparison to the current version of the game, and they should be releasing another update patch soon that addresses a lot of the common things that people point out as far as the mechanics go.

One of my best buy. With gameplay tweaks & 2 new playable characters coming (free), it's too good to pass for me. Also very good replayability, you can develop the 2 playable characters differently with skills, stats, spells, equips. And that's just the current 2, when the other 2 come, oh my ^^

Just finished my 5th playthrough, still learn some new stuff there, gonna go 6 :D

There's nothing I don't like about this game. I wasn't familiar with platforming challenges when started playing, but once I learn to do them I can always do them again (and they do give enjoyable variation from combat). Last thing that bother me was a platforming challenge having too tight timer on Godslayer difficulty, but turned out there's some tricks to do them easily. I know those trick now thanks to the forum, so I'm good.

Totally worth it in my opinion. There is lot of depth in the combat system, and the game can be unforgiving at times, but you can always learn and improve. Platforming do take some time to adapt and master, but you can be very precise in the end.

Also, for an indie game that has only two dev, the graphics, animations, and the level of details are awesome. Really.

Plus they're still changing things based on feedback in order to improve their game, and more content is coming, for free (like xJoLL said, two other characters will be added)

And Zack is just too modest, he's the compositer of the OST, and his music is just wonderfull, it really makes the game shine.

hoooo yes it is worth it. Your every penny!
This game is one of a kind, it takes all the good points from all the platformers, metrovanias, and swirls it up with cool rpg elements.
I'm so suprised of how much gameplay time I getting out of this unexpectadly big game.
definitley one of my favorite games of this year!

It is challenging, you might throw away your controller, and feel the blood pressure rising from playing this game. But its worth it man!

I'm not the greatest at platformers, so I feel the issues about difficulty. My biggest issue is that the controls just don't seem very tight.. But that might be because I'm using the analog stick on a 360 controller. Grabbing onto ledges causes me no end of grief. The timing puzzles require absolutely no error and the ones for the extra armor I simply have to skip since I'm having trouble mastering the controls. I have some other issues, but they are pretty minor.

This is in stark constrast to Risk of Rain, whose controls I was able to grasp much better. The games are comparable in difficulty, I think (just with more RNG in RoR). I prefer the controls in RoR and find them much more intuitive.

Overall I vastly prefer RoR over VS. This is one part that I like the controls of RoR better and one part that I prefer Rougelikes to Metroidvania games. Both games have excellent graphics and awesome music.
