Beta 1.1.17 Updates
TowerFall Ascension has a Beta game branch where I'll be testing out changes and fixes. I'll try to keep this topic up-to-date on what's currently in the beta that isn't in the default branch. Once we're sure everything is stable I'll push it all into the default branch. Testing of the beta branch is very appreciated!

You can enter the beta by right-clicking TowerFall in Library -> Properties -> Betas -> Select the beta branch.

Current Beta Changes:

New Content:
  • Added Super Seeking Arrows variant
  • Added Encumbrance variant - arrows in inventory reduce movement speed
  • Added Trigger Corpses variant - hold the shoot button to explode your corpse
  • Added Reaper's Crown achievement
  • Added [???]

Balance:
  • You can now change your facing direction while ducking
  • Made the Return As Ghosts ghost controls a bit faster and more responsive
  • Arrows no longer collide with treasure chests in the short time they are flashing after they appear
  • Reduced requirements for Massive Mythology and Time Lord achievements

Changes:
  • Can no longer hold the shoot button to prevent your corpse explosion with Exploding Corpses variant
  • You can now activate the Exploding Corpses and Return As Ghosts variants simultaneously
  • Removed variants from the Randomize Variants pool: Cursed Bows, Cursed Dodges, No Slipping
  • New variants added in patches will now show up as "NEW!" in-game the next time you play
  • Returning to Archer Select from Versus match end menu now un-joins all players
  • Changed how Most Trigger-Happy Award is rated. Previously it went to the archer who shot the most arrows, now it goes to the player who spams consecutive arrows the most.
  • Added new player-made gamepad configs
  • The "input_log" console command now copies the first gamepad's ID to the clipboard
  • Game now checks for Keyboard_Config_Custom.xml before Keyboard_Config.xml. You can rename your config file to Keyboard_Config_Custom.xml to avoid it being overwritten with every update

Fixes:
  • Fixed facing direction flipping when another player bumps you while you're ducking
  • Picking up your own crown no longer counts toward the Usurper Award
  • Picking up your own hat now only counts toward the Most Fashionable award if you were previously hatless
  • Fixed Koala Hunter Award only counting stomp kills
  • Fixed replays during slow mo being really short
  • Fixed crash on startup with no sound device enabled
  • Fixed various bugs with Return As Ghosts with vsync disabled
  • Fixed White Archer's hair behaving incorrectly with vsync disabled
  • Fixed some backgrounds drawing wrong with vsync disabled
  • Fixed some small physics bugs with falling arrows with vsync disabled

Known Issues:
  • Rumble can somehow get stuck on with vsync disabled
  • Some rare loud sound effect errors with vsync disabled

Hi, I had some bugs early today :

- Two people dashed at the same time (someone from the top left to bottom right, someone from the bottom right to the top left position) and they crossed position without the top one stomping on the lower one. (they just got trough each other and nothing happened).

- A ghost spawned, then disapeared (It was not killed : it just vanished) Never seen this before (we use the ghost variant almost every time)

Those reports may not be useful because I can't state why they happened, but now you know this can happen.

Also big suggestion : when you're a ghost, you can "back dash" for exemple you can face right and dash left, without changing your facing position (still right). I think i can't do that as a regular archer. Wouldn't it be cool to do that so you can shoot arrow straight in front of you after a backdash ?

Also a little off-topic, but there was a Towerfall Forum on your matt makes game website after the original Ouya release, why is it off ? It may be cool, and more accessible for people looking for towerfall stuff trough google and internet.

I had a question about Exploding Corpses. Sometimes it goes off, sometimes not. Has the behaviour changed in Ascension?

Exploding Corpses now lets you hold a button to prevent your explosion, but it's not very clear to players what's happening yet and lots of people do it by accident. I plan on splitting it into two variants, Exploding Corpses which will work like in the Ouya version and Trigger Corpses where you have to press the shoot button to make it explode.

The ducking direction change might make King's Court II a little easier - but I beat Kevin's time already without it, so it'll be a while until I need that :)

Had another 5 hour Versus session, here's a few bugs - however they are from the previous beta, the update was released in the middle of us playing.
- With VSync off, the Ancient Exile's hair is bugged.
- Crash when I unplugged a DirectInput controller (Dual Action):

Usurper is when you pick up someone else's crown
I know, but it triggered when I picked up my own.

Alright, the new version is ready! I'll let it sit in beta for a day or two before pushing to default branch, so let me know if you spot any bugs.

Wait, what? How else could you be hatless? I haven't been following the bug reports so could someone explain to me what was going on?

You could pick up a crown, which makes you drop your hat, then pick up your hat again, then the crown again, etc.
See I thought maybe it tied into the crown, but I couldn't put my finger on it. Thanks for the clarification.
Does [???] mean you added a secret or you just forgot what you added? ;)
Gonna have to look for that before LAN party tonight...
Any hints as to what [???] is?
