Yeah, Really agreed.
it's Shame i have to give up this good game
beacause of some stupid reasons like Map & barter system
i really don't know what devs are thinking
The restrictive item bartering system was not originally in the game, but was added later during the alpha - so that, coupled with the dialogue of the in-game NPC "Al Fabet," makes me think Styg is committed to this system going forward. If so, it's a misguided idea in my opinion (like the lack of a map, it adds more tedium and inconvenience than any kind of actual challenge), but hey, it's his game.
As for the world map, some forum posters have tried to make a case that the lack of an in-game map is intended to somehow make the game more "hardcore/old-school" etc., but there's no evidence of that; moreover, Styg himself was considering adding a map back during the alpha per his posts on the official game forums. I also don't see how forcing people to Alt-Tab to view a map in these days of the internet makes the game any more challenging. That said, I could understand that Styg had limited resources to complete the game, so may have left some "non-essential" convenience improvements like this out, at least for now.
Still, this is just my opinion - there's always hope for future patches (or Styg's next game...).
Fortunately I read up before buying, lack of map in a game like this is a big detracter- especially if there's as much back-tracking thru to the end of the game as I've read about.. (among other detracters, in a game I've wanted to like- but even at the daily deal of 30% off which is rare for this game, I'm not paying that much to be annoyed- especially at the end). In a few years a bigger sale- I'll bite then, not before (or if some of it gets fixed, but doesn't look likely at this point in time).
time. Getting back after two weeks, trying to remember where is what, where you've
already been, becomes a chore. I'm actually burned out right now. I'm in deep caverns,
wanting to finish Underrail, really liking it. But I just can't. The backtracking, hiking,
adding to the mix, that I really don't overly enjoy convoluted puzzles in my rpgs,
and investigating every trash bin in the known universe, got to me.
I keep Underrail installed. Throwing a D20 everytime I start steam.
In the meantime, there are some good player-made maps online - though the fact that more than half of the game's Steam guides are primarily game maps says a lot about what players seem to find lacking in the game itself.

Also, a good DC map (basic grid outlines):

Finallly, I also don't like the barter system Styg added during the alpha, but I've learned to tolerate it, barely. It's just a helluva lot of mind-numbingly boring backtracking... though that's incidentally helped me memorize a lot of the world map as well.
idea was good 'In Theory'
but truth is... this barter system ruin the gameplay so...badly
i could go - finishing missions, quests. item huntings. leveling up. adventuring underrailworld
= Enjoyng this Game
but i can't
beacause my inventory is full of roots that have to sell
it wasted so many time and efforts for no reason
