High quality components before Deep Caverns
As I understand once I get to DC, I will not be able to go back and use crafting benches in my house. Is there a way to get some high grade components(140+) before that, so I do not have to bother with crafting in DC?

I am playing as psion, so I am primarily intested in getting components for shields, headband and tac vest. I have high mercantile(105) but even special merchants rarely have anything above 130.

I don't think you can get Q140+ components (except SuperSteel) pre DC. Combine this w/ the nerf to Junkyard Surprises I would say yeah don't brother w/ crafting in DC except to craft grenades/meds/ammo/traps/bolts.

This might or might not change yet again w/ the expansion but we'll just have to wait and see.

Basically, to get the best gear possible a player will either have to invest heavily into crafting to craft without benches or craft gear after DC for 2nd playthrough. That sucks.

With 105 Mercantile, you can get up to 139Q components from Constantine(Oculus), Investigator Kiro(IoT), JKK/Coretech, Becket(Free Drones). 140-150Q Carrier Vest, Gun, Crossbow Parts and Chemical collector from Efreitor Hanna(IoT).
And there is some random encounter with Jax in Core City Upper Metro(my case) where you can get 160Q components...

I'd say you don't really need to. Besides, relying on DC loot is bad, since there is no guarantee that it will give you components that you actually want.

120-130Q loot is more than enough to be very OP, but if you want more, you can do merchant runs between traders mentioned by @mindless. I would recommend using speedhack for that though.

Yeah, the scaling is such that you aren't going to get a big improvement from the extra 5-10 item quality you'll get from DC loot. Just make sure that you have like 100+ psi boosters, at least a few dozen good health hypos and batteries, and a few stacks of grenades and traps, if you use them. You'll do OK in DC as long as you go in heavily stocked for a long engagement. The majority of the difficulty in DC isn't actually from the fights, it's from the difficulty in getting around. Once you learn what the enemies do, as psi you'll have plenty of tools to handle them. Once you learn the safe places to hide, you'll have plenty of places to rest up between fights. DC is manageable, it just feels quite different from the rest of the game and it really bothers some people.

You'll probably get a faster response if you upload your saves as well using sites like MEGA or Dropbox and provide a link in your post.

Thank you all for the explanation. Indeed, the items I have crafted from 120-130 quality components already feel quite superior(0 damage from borrowers is priceless) and access to full spectrum of psionics make the game easy if not trivial. As long as I get the first turn at least(I still get one shotted by snipers).

Does anyone know when merchants inventory is generated? I know that about every 90 mins merchants restock their items, but when exactly does it happen: at any moment, on player entering the zone or player accessing the barter? I have an idea to try and save-reload to grind some 140+Q components to minmax my build to the extreme.

Also, any tips about DC in general? My main combat tactic has been to abuse force fields and zone transitions to group up enemies and then finish all of them at once via thermodynamic metastability.

You don't have quite as much time to faff about in DC, so if you're accustomed to backing up to a wall and putting up Force Field for four turns of cooldows as your enemies burn out from a pyrokinesis effect or incendiary grenade, you'll find you get stuck in a lot of fights. You should try to be as quick as you safely can, and in many cases you may want to run to a zone transition and just finish them all off and immediately move on elsewhere. Especially if you've gone with Psychosis, you'll find yourself needing psi boosters often.

I got real good use from Thermo Destab -> TK Proxy -> Implosion for handling groups. Takes a lot of psi even with Premeditation and psionic mufflers/psi beetle carapace, but boy does it clear out groups. Works well if you want to nearly one-shot the end boss, too >.>

TBH I have the same proble in one of the zones. Good thing it is not a critical location with some lurkers so I just dont go there. So you can either try reverting to an earlier save or ignoring the problematic zone.
