Steam failed to load - failed with error 1
Steam - Fatal Error

Steam failed to load: *SteamStartEngine(0x97f398) failed with error 1: Unable to write to the current Steam application folder. Please move Steam to a folder where you have write privileges.

That's the message I keep getting when trying to launch the game through Steam.
I downloaded Steam itself on to my C drive and I got my steam library downloaded to my E drive. Never been a problem before, as all my other games launch normally except for Arma Tactics (which gets the same Fatal Error message, just a different code *SteamStartEngine(0xd3f700) )

I've been having troubles trying to find any solutions online and mostly come across things relating to macs, linux, the actual steam client not launching, and so forth. One other game that i've noticed a problem with when I launch it is America's Army, and it's telling me that it can't find Steam at all and that it needs to be running in order to use certain features.

I'm running Windows 8 on my computer. If any additional information would be helpful, i'll try and provide what I can.

I've had the same problem for the past few days. Tried re-installing multiple times and many other methods that I came across when I was trawling the web for a solution. What seems to have worked for me though is:-

>Go to your Steam directory C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam
>Find the application Steam.exe
>Go to properties and under 'compatibility' tick the 'Run this program as an administrator' box.
>You'll be prompted with a message when opening Steam but just cancel it and it shouldn't show it again.
>Bish bash bosh it should be working.
