Can you play versus mode with cpu players like super mash bros?

As far as i can tell, the ONLY way to team up with a friend against the computer is to play the campaign. but is there a way to fight CPU players in versus mode? what about have a friend join in on tournament mode. if these features aren't in the game, they should be. im sure everyone would love to play it just like super smash brothers where you can have 1-4 human players against 1-3 computer players.
