Salvation Prophecy
This game is really fantastic.
I imagine if Star Wars Battlefront were made by an indie developer, it would be something like this.
There's a lot to like in this game. To me it doesn't feel like it's a low budget anything, it actually delivers on things I've wanted from AAA games. I love the large battles between the factions, it really has a feeling of scale.
The factions are sufficiently varied, I'm playing as some kind of alien race, the 'Salvation' I believe, and they use twin pistols and an energy drain attack. It feels satisfying to build up the drain on multiple foes and then hit the space bar to replinish health, looks good too. The sprinting animation of the Salvation is particularly nice as well, it gives a sense of action and speed.
The whole setting is pretty fantastic, it's futuristic sci-fi and you'll see things like space bases and ship hangers.
There's a good variety in the locations you visit. Some of the more nitty gritty things are nice too for instance the map sizes are very large and the draw distance is great.
This is a personal thing but the game runs perfectly fine on my awful laptop that has an i5 processor and integreted intel graphics (though I may have turned the graphics down a bit when I first started the game I don't remember).
It really is a joy to play, I love the scale of the battles because really the only AAA game I can think of that does big action game battles like this is Dynasty Warriors and I think the gameplay in Salvation Prophecy is superior to those titles. Which brings me to my next point that (at least now in the early game like I'm playing) the game is challenging but beatable. The enemies don't just drop like a sack of patatoes like they would in Dynasty Warriors but instead there's a grand battle going on with genuinely dangerous opponents who don't just stand around and wait for you to hit them. There's a real feeling of a power struggle of your faction vs the opposing one. Moreover, I believe the game has a counter of the number of allies left alive in the battle and obviously you can visually see allies dying in combat. In what I've played so far your numbers get very low and the battles can be very even and challenging, you feel like you are the hero and making a difference while not feeling massively overpowered like a lot of games make you. In appearance you look the same as the other foot soldiers, which I love because it makes you feel more a part of the battle rather than some supreme overlord just sent there to massacre everyone.
I'd recommend this game to anyone, I bought it at 75% off and for the money very little on steam has made me satisfied with the quality of the game.

I haven't played all the way through but I couldn't tell you what the story is. I think it's more of a goal driven game, like the story is you need to exterminate all the other factions as well as growing up the ranks to become the leader of your own faction.
I completely agree with the OP, very well said/written!

As for the story, there is a background story of sorts, the intro tells you some basics and the main menu features snippets of the gameworld's history popping up at the bottom but most of it will be explained gradually during the game, much of which will be in the form of timeline entries shown before your battles against the other factions, but that's just information, it doesn't interfere with gameplay.

The story only becomes really important later in the game when some story events start happening that'll stir things up quite a bit.

Hey Andrew -
Very cool of you to drop by and post your impressions. I'm pleasantly surprised and pleased it is running so well on your integrated graphics card.

The Salvation are one of my favorite factions to play. They take a real finesse touch, and good movement and distancing between your target(s) to make maximal use of the energy drain weapon, without straying into melee range and getting pulverized. The shield can be used to pretty good effect, too. I find myself in a "flow" when I play them, finding the sweet spot between dealing damage and absorbing energy to stay alive. You do miss out on having a big area explosion weapon like the other factions, but that deficiency is made up for in other ways.

Pfft, integrated graphics cards are too high tech :P
Just installed the game on my 10'' notepad (Lenovo Flex 10 ideapad). Playing as the Wyr and doing fine so far :)

Hahaha, now that's pushing the boundaries just a little. :P
I love the Wyr. They remind me a little of playing a Malkavian in World of Darkness, and their attitude encourages me to use grenades almost exclusively. Making explosions is more important than keeping my teammates alive.

Spoken like a true Wyr, valczir.
Throwing explosives is like sending little bundles of joy out into the world.
Just make sure you don't die. You can't explode things if you are dead. Or zap things.

We invaded Jalakkar and beat the Unity there in my first land battle as a Wyr.
I learned two things:
I am too used to playing Salvation
Trying to target using touchscreen is not advisable and doesn't work all that well :P

It was a valiant attempt. :P
This is open world? I can come and go free?

Once you reach rank 2, you can go just about anywhere, you can visit planets, go to other stations your faction owns and you could even find yourself in the middle of a warzone where you can defend the other station for bonus credits/rank points. As open as it is though, there's no real drive to explore and you want to manage your time carefully because the enemies get stronger as new tech is developed in game time so you have to keep up with it by upgrading your character/ship, by the later portion on the game you likely won't have time for exploration.
