It takes 25 minutes in-game time for the cartographer to find the three red stars. After which you should have received a mission on where to find it. If for some reason that isn't triggering (which can happen if all your stations and cartographers have been destroyed), let me know.
The game is very enjoyable but as I wrote in the review it becomes less enjoyable at the end simply due to the ceaseless repetition of the final tasks that you have to undertake with no break at the end.
I will play on and finish my first playthrough, heartened by the knowledge that I don't have to wait as long as for the previous wormhole, and one day I will be sure to come back and try play through the game again as a different nation.
Thanks again for the reply and thanks also for creating such a game.
