Tired of Steam having no accountability with problem games
This makes probably the 5th or 6th game I have installed that will not work no matter what suggestions I try. I have tried every suggestion posted here with out luck "other than redownloading"and tired of that as it fails to work 99% of the time with the other games I currently own and CAN NOT use. I have actually gotten a reply from STEAM in the past that it was up to the publisher/dev not them. Well sorry but if you list the game here, claim it compatable and so on then you should be able to make some claim of assurance that the games will work or at the minimum be highly tested. If a game YOU SELL has a known issue then LIST these issues on your SALES page. YES you are a distrubutor so are many other places that SELL things , and they are ACCOUNTABLE. This C&C is my final straw with steam. When you as a company decide to step up and stop hiding behind the "Publishers or Dev" wall and realize you are partly responsable as a front for the sales I will NOT ADD anything new to my account. I will settle for places that want to support the customer end of the business.

I have read where places like EA pull games due to either failing to or unable to meet requirements on steam? What requirements would these be??? It surely isn't quality assurance?

Yes frustrated at the CONSTANT requirement for me to find out what is wrong re do this re do that, delete this. And yes I also know that pc gaming requires work, but shouldn't take more effort to launch than ENJOY!

UPDATE, I deleted the game after trying everything except using the new .exe file mentioned "sorry not putting unknown exe's on my computer just to get the game to work" So last night I go and RE DOWNLOAD the game via ORIGIN this time, install it "Game Launches but crashes when changing settings" something steam install refused to do! I put in the xres shortcut and first try the game launches. That settles it for me , sadly I will not partake in any more steam sales or promotions. When I am able to play the currently paid for content in my steam account I will gladly return to making purchases!

I really don't understand why you are blaming steam for the game when it is the publishers and developers who need to fix it. All steam does is give you a place for you to download the game which is the same game you would get anywhere. You even said you downloaded it form origin and it still didn't work so the problem isn't steam it is ether you or the game. And no they don't ever claim compatibility with your computer all they do is list the required specks as provided them by the developers and publishers not anything they came up with and you can still download and install the game even if you don't meet those specks, it is your choice to pay attention or even read the. Also distributors aren't responsible for what they sell you that is why if you go to a store and buy a game and open it you cant return it unless it is defective and even then all you can do is exchange it for the same thing.

You blame steam as a distributor, they sell way to many broken games. I never got the steam version to work, origins worked fine with the simple res shortcut feature. After 3 hours with the steam version nothing was working. That means it is the STEAM service version. It is simple, no matter what company it is, if they sell defective or broken merchandise they end up accountable for that and either stop selling it till the manufacturer fixes it or they end up loosing money. Steam needs to be held accountable for how many games the openly sell with KNOWN issues and heavily reported issues, yet nothing is done. I also read all the descriptions and search before purchasing knowing full well if the game has issues or no issues.

If your going to be the front end of the supply chain you can not continue to hide behind the curtain of the "we just let you download it" No they make money off every game here and have a stake in the games actually WORKING.

As a matter of fact it is EASY for steam to know what OS your using and infom those that don't bother to read up before purchase.

You redownloaded the game through ORIGIN? I don't understand, the Steam version of RA3 and Uprising doesn't require Origin. You buy it through Steam, you download it through Steam and you play it through Steam. I heard people have serious problems when trying to run the game under Origin but I've never heard before that Steam causes problems in itself when it comes to C&C games.

What version do you have?

That would be the version this posting is listed under. And the steam version is filled with problems read the forums, unable to launch the game, numerous postings about it. The Origin install works 100% fine , the only issue was the xres yres addition to the exe, No need to download hacked programs and so forth to get it running like suggested for the steam install version

dude... get a new computer... or make sure your system matches the system requirements...

LOL get a new computer, pc is more than capable it is steams lack of quality assurance that needs to be renewed. Even games like dirt 3 and showdown have issues

OP, you put me in the highly distasteful position of having to defend and legitimize EA...

I, too, am tired of steam having no accountability for problem games, but in this particular case, it's not the game, it's something with your rig. One way or other, it's something with your rig. Believe it.

You don't list any specifics of what you have or have not tried. Or why you need to go through all this extraneous crap in the 1st place and can't just run the game. You are the one who has gone on this wild goose chase with the extra programs etc. They should not be necessary, if, your hardware can, in fact, run the game. (And if it can't run the game, then all the little util exes in the world may not help. :P) (And btw following advice from equally clueless ppl on gaming forums is probably not your best line of tech support.)

BTW, game crashing when it tries to initialize the video is a classic "update your drivers" symptom. (And if they are up to date, then it's a classic "your hardware can't run this" symptom. And why do I highly suspect you are trying to run this on a laptop??? Not that that, in and of itself, should prevent it from running, but laptops are notorious for inadequate graphics hardware, especially for gaming.)

As you said, steam has a stake in the games actually working. This one does work. (Personally, I've run it on 4 different rigs all with no issues.) If this game didn't work, period, there would be much more outcry about it. But no, it's just the vocal (and, sry to say, most likely clueless) few.

I can tell just from what you write that you don't know much about troubleshooting, or even understanding issues like this. So, don't expect your post to be taken seriously by people who know better. Not trying to diss, just stating facts.

sorry snappy but your to funny I am actually extremely good at troubleshooting and the fact the game works outside of steam is proof to what I stated. Steam fanboys are about the worse I have seen out there. And before you attempt to insult me further about my pc skills. You even missed this statement

Lets also not mention all the GFWL issues that run rampant within steam sold games. Non stop "failure to launch posts" all around the forums and so on and so on and so on.
