I'd like a railway sim where I can just lay back and watch the train going. Is there such a game? or is there a game with such an option?

Yes It can be done in Trainz.

There is the ability in Surveyor (the editor) where you can add a driver to a particular loco you would like it to drive. Give "rules" (e.g. drive to staiton-platform number/unload/load etc) for the AI driver to follow. "Easy Mode" is then selected in "Startup Option".

Once set up, you then go into "Quick Drive" sit back and enjoy "passenger view" in a carriage if it has that built in, or go cab, or just do Chase view where you watch and follow the loco from outside.
Also if camera's are set up along the route, you can watch from them also, this is called
"Lineside view" . Pretty cool. Anyway that is the basics.

Once learnt how to add the rules, you can have a lot of fun. :)

There are even sessions designed to be just watched. The only downside is, that its graphics is pretty old even by Trainz standards.

What's wrong with watching cabviews on Youtube? Unless you are actually engaged in the gameplay, simulated railroads will always be less realistic than real-life footage.

:'( this sucks, it won't launch, and when i try force closing it in Task Manager, Steam says i'm still in it, :( i was hoping so badly to have a new fun game when Auran ended support for TRS2004 and 2006. :( i'm very unhappy with them, so nothing against Steam.

Have you tried a database repair? If not, open up the launcher, select "Content".
the "Content Manager" utility opens, click on "File" (Top left)
Click on "Extended Database repair"
Let it run it's course and when finished restart trainz.
Sometimes the database needs a repair and depending on how much content you have it may take a little time. Anyway, hope this helps.

Try running it as Administrator. If you are not sure how to do this: Find the trainz exe file in the location where it is installed. Right click on exe and in the menu that pops up is "Run as Adminsitrator"

hey AT, I've had problems with trainz running in the background after its been shutdown. If it happens again, close all programs, including steam. Wait 5 minutes, then just shutdown the computer. DO NOT END TASK. DO NOT END TASK. DO NOT STOP ANY TRAINZ PROCESSES. Let the computer do it when you shut down. Try a "Quick database repair" first before you do the extended, as you'll lose saved files otherwise. Always open the content manager first, then launch trainz from the content manager, which is located under the files tab. Hope this helps! Also, if you try to buy anything off their online store, you'll have to restart your computer or refresh your router (they have a port issue, the content manager and online store connect to you computer using the same port). After its all said and done though, you'll find youself having a great time. I've been working on a layout now for a month, its so much fun i'm pretty sure I could die happy at this point.
