The Typing of The Dead: Overkill

The Typing of The Dead: Overkill

There *is* over the top swearing in this.
Reason why I'm making a new topic about this is because the other topic seems to be complaining for a different reason.

I'm not one to get offended by swearing, but the swearing in this is so frequent, that it's just irritating. It's like the voice actors are annoying 13 year olds that think swearing is cool, and make sure to put at least one word in every sentence they say for hardness factor.

Such a shame, because the original Typing/House of the Dead games were cheesy in their own way, like a movie that's trying to be good but without the budget to do so. This is just too much of a try hard, where it's actively trying to be cheesy, only they're crossing the line... massively.

True. It's absolutely pathetic. It's like it was written to appeal to children.
I played the original at a SEGA game center in Japan. I was going to buy this version until I saw how it is very different. Not what I am looking for so I will pass. Thanks for the heads up.
It pays homage to classic Grindhouse films of the early 70's where the films were really sleezy and had no remorse, so obviously, it's natural for a game like this to have a lot of swearing. If you don't like it, this is not your kind of game, that's all I'm saying.

^ This. Its a homage bro, any of those old movies is 1000x more exploitative then this. There is no child slavery in the plot so be happy.

I have to agree and I am a little disappointed, I know the rating of this game and I also know that its killing zombies and yes I am even OK with a little cursing here or there.

I purchased this for the kids and its just ridiculous, my adult music does not even curse this much. This is such a cool game for the kids and the game play works well. Its perfect for what it is and there is no reason to drop 6 F'bombs in the 30 second intro.

I skipped past it and let the kids play the game for a bit but I am not sure if I will turn it back on for them its really that bad.

For my own taste I think its over the top but I can deal with it but if it just had an options for the cursing where it would mute or bleep that would be perfect. My kids would not touch the setting to turn it off but it doesn't exist.

I know this was never targeted for children but damn it really can be of benefit for their typing skills, I hope the dev's add support for just a simple way to bleep it.

Another post suggested turn off dialog and subtitles, we may try that.
Lmao. Its fine for your kids to shoot at zombies which are basically human beings, blowing limbs off with fountains of blood, but cussing is where you draw the line. Classic.

Dude, how young ARE your kids if you're buying them this but might not "turn it back on for them"?

Also, zombie shoot'em up rated M... c'mon now.

As for typing, grab a copy of Mavis Beacon Keyboard Kidz, it's the same price as TOTDO, straight from Borderbund.
It's all a parody of old exploitation films, thus the cheesy trailer narrator. It's completely justified swearing.

But that said, it does lose its appeal after awhile, and makes the dialogue boring when they're just swearing instead of progressing the plot.
My child is 8 years old and I allow her to watch and sometimes even play games such as Dark Souls, Skyrim, Final Fantasy Series and even some Resident Evil. (Which btw.. She refuses to watch or play cause it scares the living ♥♥♥♥ outta her)

She is very much into dragons and mystical creatures and so forth and loves rpg games like myself that put you into a fantasy setting, shes working on breath of fire 3 (kept my ps1 copy, worth alot now.) right now because you can turn into dragons! Anywho, the game itself is amazing having beaten it when I was young and it makes ya read which she is phenomenal at.. Which I wish they still made ya do on newer rpgs

Would I allow her to play a game to increase her typing skills where cuss words are abroad and your blowing up zombies.. No. There is no cussing aloud in this home, why? Because she takes it to school and it accidently slips out, not to mention it does not particularly sound good coming from a child. As far as blowing the crap outta zombies? Sure. Its just fantasy, she knows that because I have had thorough discussions about video games and their place in the world and in return she is very mature about them for her age. Leave out the cuss words and I would let her play it. She would not play it anyway I presume because its too scary / too much pressure. However a game that makes ya type in order to survive a zombie horde. Sounds like an adrenaline rush and I could imagine it would have its benefits torwards typing skills.

Now would I allow her to play CoD or BF? ♥♥♥♥ no. I hate getting on battlefield only to hear some 12 year old cussing up a storm while his parents sit there on the couch and play it with them. That is rediculous, not to mention that is WAR, it is real and by no means fantasy.

My point exactly. Kids are constantly exposed to "adult" language, wither inside their homes (on TV or from their parents/siblings) or outside (when was the last time you went to the gas station/grocery store for anything?). Walking around in hallways waiting for a class to start in any school USA, you'll hear stuff that will make drunk sailors blush and there's nothing teachers can do to stop it. Kids these days want to be on even ground with adults, so they'll speak like adults to gain that credibility (whatever that means).

To complain about kids being around profanity (whether its excessive or not) is pointless because there's simply no way to get rid of it.
But the over-the-top violence is a-okay for your kids?

You ever watch the news with your kids around? Kids are constantly exposed to violence whether it be on the news, in school, or in their home towns, some even within their own homes. What is important is differentiating what is real and what is not when it comes to video games in my own opinion.

I would never allow my child to play any type the games with over the top violence mentioned alone, ever. I am there to monitor, anything of a sexual nature or excessive cussing is immediatly dismissed because she is not ready for anything of the sort, and I do not want to hear from her teacher that she stubbed her toe and yelled some profanities.

I should also mention that my child is very loving and caring torwards others and was raised as such, I could however see excessive violence in video games being very detrimental torwards the CoD type 12 year olds that may or may have not been exposed to violence in the homes whos parents allow them to have a headset in the first place. I make my kid mute everyone when she is online (dungeon defenders for example) even if its obviously a child.
