Support FAQ and Known Issues [PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING]
Hello, everyone! If you are affected by a less-than-fine problem, glitch, crash, or other defect, please check out this here FAQ before posting. Many users are affected by the same problems that have potential solutions or workarounds, which is what this FAQ is all about. If you have read this FAQ and still can’t find an answer for your problem, do a quick search for other threads on the topic here. If that fails, too, then please post a new thread on the problem or email us at support@doublefine.com!

We'll think you're the coolest if you provide us with the following when you contact us:

* A description of the issue.

* Save file in which the issue still occurs:
On Windows, they’re in: <My Documents>\Hack ‘n’ Slash\Saves
On OSX, they're in: ~\Documents\Hack ‘n’ Slash\Saves
On Linux, they’re in: Home > .local > share > Steam > SteamApps > common > Hack n Slash > ~

* Your Moai log file from the game directory. It's in Steam > Right-click Hack 'n' Slash > Properties > Local Files > Browse Local Files.

* Your Steam System Information report, DxDiag, OS X system report, or equivalent document from Linux. We require the full report documents so that we can check driver dates.

Hack 'n' Slash is doing something strange and random and glitchy and none of the specific things below help, what can I do?

Computers are fickle beasts and sometimes things go wrong. There are a few steps you can try that solve many of the random breakages that users encounter. If you post about an issue, very likely we’ll ask you to try one or more of these things first.

* Make sure your system meets the minimum system requirements.

Windows Minimum:
OS: Windows XP Service Pack 3
Processor: 1.7 GHz Dual Core
Memory: 2 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260, ATI Radeon 4870 HD, Intel HD 3000, or equivalent card with at least 512 MB VRAM
DirectX: Version 9.0
Hard Drive: 3 GB available space
Sound Card: DirectX Compatible Sound Card
Additional Notes: Must have OpenGL 3 with GLSL version 1.3

OS X Minimum:
OS: Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or later
Processor: Intel Core Duo
Memory: 2 GB RAM
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 4850, NVIDIA GeForce GT 120, Intel HD 3000, or equivalent card with at least 512 MB VRAM
Hard Drive: 3 GB available space
Additional Notes: Must have OpenGL 3 with GLSL version 1.3

Linux Minimum:
OS: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Processor: 1.7 GHz Dual Core
Memory: 2 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260, ATI Radeon 4870 HD, Intel HD 4000, or equivalent card with at least 512 MB VRAM
Hard Drive: 3 GB available space
Additional Notes: Must have OpenGL 3 with GLSL version 1.3

* Reboot your computer. It’s a simple thing but it’s amazing how many problems this solves.

* Update your drivers, especially video card drivers.

* Verify the Integrity of your Local Game Cache. You can do this by Right clicking on Hack 'n' Slash in your library, choosing Properties, Advanced, and then clicking the Verify Integrity of Local Game Cache button.

* Remove and reinstall the game.

* Try deactivating heavy background processes like anti-virus or malware scanners. On some computers these programs are so demanding that they significantly interfere with games. If this doesn’t solve your problem, though, be sure to turn your scanners back on!

* You can also try to play in windowed mode and a lower resolution.

* [Windows] Try running the game in Vista or XP compat mode.

Where do I find the Hack 'n' Slash save file?

On Windows, they’re in: <My Documents>\Hack ‘n’ Slash\Saves
On OSX, they're in: ~\Documents\Hack ‘n’ Slash\Saves
On Linux, they’re in: Home > .local > share > Steam > SteamApps > common > Hack n Slash > ~

Do I get a copy of this if I have the prototype?

This full release of Hack 'n' Slash is separate from the prototype.

I keep crashing the game. What do I do?

Some crashes in game are intentional and are caused by an incorrect action. It’s encouraged that the user attempt to solve a solution again, through different means such as using the time warp amulet.

I moved to a new scene and got stuck in the wall!
Out of world issues occur when progressing to a different area, and we're working to fix any remaining instances of this issue. Feel free to report them as bugs in the forum if you encounter them. You can use the time amulet to warp to a previous point.

I accidentally skipped dialog! Can I read it again?
If you bypass dialog (such as by pressing Esc or B), you can use the time amulet to warp back to a previous scene and watch the dialog again. This is good way to read any clues you missed.

I fell into a hole in SpookyPath and now I keep getting a game crash.

We're working to fix this. In the meantime, you can restart the game.

I crashed, but I can't get out of it or use the time amulet to bypass it!

If this happens, restart the game and load your save to get back to where you left off.

A bunch of the artifacts display with the same graphic in the inventory menu.

Artifacts will have temp default graphics before you assign them in the inventory. We're working on the fix.

I tried to remove all behaviors and traits from a hackable object or character, but then it crashed when I tried to create a new one!

This is a known issue. For now, remember not to remove them!

The screen became pixelated when I skipped dialog with Ida.

D'oh! You can enter and exit the inventory menu to fix this, or move to a different scene.

I can't pause the game nor is there an option to close the game!

A lot of the in-game UI and options are still being tweaked around at the moment.

When you guys fix something, does the game patch itself automatically, or do I need to manually get something from Steam? If automatically, does it happen when the game boots up?

Updates appear automatically. Usually you have to confirm that you want to download the update, depending on your settings.

Sometimes, though, you have to restart Steam for an update to appear.

Yes even for me I have to "alt+enter" to get it to progress further. It puts it into a window and then I see the rest of the intro animation and game loads. Mine is PC.

Please bring the game in German, too. It's very hard to understand this things if they aren't in your mother language. Thanks

The main thing of the game is computer language and hacking, all the computer language and hacking is done in english, all over the world. I don't think a translation is needed.

I don't see why translations would be bad. There is a lot of the game that is in dialog that would be harder for another person to understand--especially, for instance, some of Bob's explanations about programming details like telling you what a modulus operation means. And, while what you say is true about computer languages generally using English words, if you want the game to be playable by the widest audience possible it would be a better design to make it more generally accessible rather than using the anglocentric programming language trend as an excuse.

But that should happen after the game has been completed. Having a functional, completable game is much more important.

I found a rather odd glitch that's somewhat fun at the same time.

In the castle level, at the part with the fireball pipes I threw my boomerang and managed to open the hack window at the exact moment a fireball hit me and dropped my life to 0.

My character sprite was stuck in that mid-warp look when you die, but when I left the room it went back to normal; however, my life was still at 0. With 0 life, no enemies or hazards can do damage to me anymore, so this bug makes you immortal.

Game breaking, but cool. Now I don't need to hack the pipes to disable the fire, I can just walk through the fire.

There's a puzzle in the dungeon that changes the characters you see when wearing the third eye hat. You need to find and solve that puzzle :)

I'm running 10.10 on a MacBook Pro, the game launches for a second then exits with no crash notice or anything. There is no log file in the game directory. I have rebooted my computer.
