Game Not Starting
Does anyone here have a clue on how to get the game to start on a modern system? Both of the config programs start, but the main game doesn't. No window shows up, and the Wiz8.exe process dies after a couple of seconds.

I am having the same problem--the config programs run, but not the game .exe--well, it starts but then poofs after a few seconds. BTW, what config settings should be used for Win 7 64?

Hmmm...Wiz 6 does run--what's up with that? You would think the newer game would work too in that case...

I just tried to play the intro video and the screen went black. I think there's some kind of graphical-tech-issue-thing.... sadly I have no know-how in that area :/ Anybody out there who can help us? (btw, the fallout 1-3 games have a similar issue--their forums might have some potential fixes? idk)

EDIT: whoops, forgot to say I'm on a windows 7 64 too

Also on Win7x64 and experiencing the same problems. Arrrrghhh.

OK, I just got it to run by simply double clicking on the wiz8.exe file (instead of through Steam).

Doesn't work for me but glad you got it running...

Running the executable directly doesn't work for me either. It should be noted that I too am running Win7x64. I'll experiment with turning off the second monitor and compatibility modes and such.

EDIT: I have tried the following, none of which worked: disabling the second monitor, changing the compatibility settings to everything from Win95 to WinXPSP3 and Ive tried every selectable render mode.

There should be 3dsetup.exe in the game's folder (at least in my retail version there is). Try different settings. In my case I can choose from Glide2 (I have nglide installed), Dx6, Dx7, OpenGL, Software (MMX). Dx7 works no problem 1920x1080x32. Catalyst 13.5 b2 here.

For those of you who try to run the game and nothing happens: I have my steam installed on my D: drive. When I copied the whole Wizardy directory to just the root on C:, Then ran wiz.exe, It runs perfectly.

I may try that in desperation. Steam is on my 2 TB drive, so you found just copying to another drive allowed the game to run? If that is the case, the problem must be in Steam somewhere it seems...

Update: I just copied the game folder over to another location on the same drive where I have Steam installed and it now runs fine! I think before doing that I had tried just about everything else I saw here to try to get it running. I will leave it to techies to explain why it doesn't run under Steam but seems to run beautifully outside of Steam, but I am just thrilled to be able to play after two days of frustration.

I copied the game folder to another location on the same drive, and the game will run! :D: sadly the cutscenes still don't work right. there's something up with the graphics... but I can play! :D:

Go into the game files, right click on the .exe file. Go into properties and run in compatibility mode with windows XP. Apply and hit okay. Right click the .exe file again and run as an administrator. Should work with that. I had all the same problems everyone else was having on here and that fixed it.

Didn't work for me, but just copying the game folder to another location seems to be working perfectly. I am also not having any problems with cut scenes or graphics that way.

seems like a Steam "feature". I installed my retail version in e:\w8, and had not a problem.
