how do you unlock challenges?

i just finished up tiki island, but i noticed i'm still missing challenges for many of the levels. i played through all of tiki island in co-op, if that matters (i was host).

if you go through the list of challenges it tells you what the conditions are to unlock it, bomb the boss for instance requires the remote mine :)
