is this game supposed to be difficult?
Since none of my friends are playing this game,
I am trying to get rainbows as much as I can all by myself,

This game looks pretty casual by its appearance,
but it makes me s**t bricks!

I just barely get few rainbows in first island in easiest difficulty of the game.
Is this game supposed to be hard???

Hi,

It is a challenging game for sure, even in casual, but practice makes perfect. The more you play, the more you will sound out what works for you, e.g. what weapons work best for which monsters and it will come to you in time with practice!

If you want to find a friend to play co-op with, you could always look through some of the threads on here where people look for coop partners or alternatively tweet and mention @PJMonsters and we will do our best to help.

Thanks,

Kirsten
Play on 2player even if you are controlling both characters yourself. It's designed with the idea of 2 characters dancing for upgrades at once.
Dance, dance, dance! :)

I've almost got perfect on every stage (normal mode) in single player. :D

It's just HAAAAAAAARD.

I've never played this game's multiplayer, but I did put probably around 50 to 60 hrs on the PS3 version, and I also played it alot on PSP (maybe 30 hrs), and it is very challenging... especially the later levels.
The "beginner" mode is definitely much too difficult :(. It should be really easy. It’s instead really hard…
I don't know what cost the devs put a real easy level for those who do not want or can spend half your life playing yours "fantastic hardcore game"... It's so frustrating replay same slow level again and again,making thing barely perfect on easy it's not sufficient...exercise of trial and error :(

Easy= easy (for my Grandpa)

Normal= balanced (for everyone)

Hard =hard (for the people realy love the concrete game)

Nothing more it's required ;)
Fortunately, I'm not the only one who felt this game is unforgiving. All of the waves are easy, but then there just has to be that one wave that messes everything up. The difficulty levels are not properly named: "Casual" to me means I can enjoy the game as it will not really prove much of a challenge at all - or like Harry put it: someone's grandpa could win it, or young kids.

The "find out which weapons work best against certain enemies" would be a lot easier if everything would be explaned properly in the game. But now, blue enemies and such just pop up unannounced, which feels nothing short of 'unfair'. I assume they are supposed to be ice monsters, vulnerable to fire, but just a quick note somewhere to that effect would have been nice.
I'd also agree this game is too hard on lower difficulty settings. I love this genre and play tonnes of tower defense, but this game still requires a lot of grinding to figure out what each map requires. And if it's true that the game was designed and tuned around 2 players (even if one is not being played), that's just bad design. Single players shoudn't be penalized for not playing coop, and shouldn't have to pretend to do coop just to compete.

Difficulty settings exist for a reason. Easy should be just that, EASY. And hard should be truly nasty. In this game easy = hard and hard = insane.

I thought the difficulty was just right. I have not played casual but normal difficulty was not hard at all, unless you were going for rainbows. Rainbows are much more difficult but I don't see anything wrong with that whatsoever. Hardcore, especially getting rainbows, is exceptionally difficult. And it should be.
Personally I was going for rainbows, since they're required to progress. So yes, "much more difficult" even on casual, which is my point. Agreed that hardcore should be difficult, but not casual.

THIS !

Why ? Why it´s SO hard to get rainbows ? I think it´s bad design. I´m playing single and it´s so frustrating to repeat the same level again and again.... :-(

I wouldn't mind so much if there was some progression involved in failing. Earning some sort of experience points (even minimally) in failure. In most games even if you fail when doing something, you'll earn a small amount of XP or gold or whatever. But playing the same level over and over and over again with nothing to show for it is the definition of frustrating gameplay. All it takes is one enemy slipping by with a sliver of health and the last 30 minutes of gameplay are completely wasted. It's pretty much while i've stopped playing this game, despite really enjoying it.

If I feel like i'm wasting my time playing a game, I go elsewhere.

Well, I'm glad to see that it's not only me that thinks this game is a bit unforgiving on the difficulty settings. Not only that, but matters are not made any better with finding out things about new monsters the hard way.

This game needs a manual/guide for identifying enemies; and honestly, I would much prefer having some documentation down on what kinds of enemies you will be facing throughout the game rather than having the difficulty lowered; despite how tough the game is, I can work things out if I have a better idea about what I'm going up against.

With that being said, I'm overall very much enjoying the game. My co-op partner and I are having a lot of fun and we do not like to back down from challenges, but if we knew more about the different colored enemies we fight against, we would definitely have an edge we could surely use.
