Another poor soul with Intel HD

I can run Kerbal Space Programme perfectly and cross referrenced the specs but from what I was reading on the other disscussions I am not sure if my laptop could handle this. Would appreciate any comments. Thanks.

Specs:

Intel Core i5 @ 2.67ghz
RAM 4gb
Intel HD with 1.7gb (apparently)

Which specific Intel HD model are you using? I'm running this game fine with Intel HD 4000 graphics on Linux. My processor is also a core i5 at approximately 2.66ghz and I also have 4gigs of RAM.

Everything worked smoothly out of the box. No need to adjust game detail.

I've tried using all sorts of system analysis freeware and intel's own diagnostics check and all they say is Intel(r) HD with no other identifying numbers. So i guess it is just Intel HD, i bought my laptop in 2011 if that helps at all (dunno if this predates HD 3000/4000).

I've also been looking at my laptop and found a way of making a 'paging file' where some of my hard disk is used as ram, and since my Intel HD eats into ram, do you think this may help performance?

If you bought it in 2011, then it's definitely not Intel HD 4000: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Intel_graphics_processing_units

Try to find out the model name of your laptop. With the model name you can try to find out what kind of graphics hardware they used for your laptop.

Or, you can simply find out the model name of your CPU and check out the following Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Core_i5_microprocessors

The Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge processors provide integrated graphics processing units. That roughly(!) means that the graphics computations do take place on the same chip as the CPU computations. And that's why a specific Intel CPU model will have a specific Intel HD graphics support.

No. It probably won't. I don't know what operating system you use but it's pretty normal for Windows and Linux to already make use of this strategy. But be warned: A non-SSD harddrive is a lot slower than RAM.
