Freezes everywere

I've got a mayor problem. The game keeps freezing randomly. Sometimes I can play an hour. Some times, as in my last try it freezes after a coople of actions.

Sometime it freezes in cutscenes. Most times it freezes after an mouse click. For example when I try to interact with the environment and the menu appers. I click one option => freeze. I misklick and hit no option => freeze. Something seems to be really wrong with the game for me.

I already checked the file integrety through steam with no success.
I'd really like to play through this nice game without those severe issues...

Also note that there's a known issue where running raptr in the background causes issues with the game's stability, so if you have that running it would need to be disabled.

Ram: 16 GB
Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 with driver 332.21
OS: Win 7 x64
My main monitor uses 16:10 1680x1050 and is used for games. A secondary monitor is connected running full hd 16:9.

Where it does happen:
I am early in the game. First file after the demo content. It happened nearly everywhere. Most times at the crime scene.

Don't know what raptr is. Therefore considering it as not running.

Some new Information. I searched for freezing bugs and found something about hitting 'b'-Key in certain situations. Well that didn't work.
But now I tried in windowed mode. I just printed the evidence form of the Sarah file. Stood up and klicked on the Printer to get it. Freeze. Then I hit b. And I could move my mouse again. But looked freezed until it pops me in lighning speed to the printer.

I'll send an email with the output_log.txt if that'll help.

I (and many others) have a similar bug in an other unity game (Blackguards). This makes the impression that the bug has todo with unity itself or an addon both you and the developers of Blackguards use. Perhaps you can work together in resolving this servere issue.

It may also be worth trying turning off the second monitor while running the game. I know in testing we occasionally had some odd behavior in the game when testers had a second monitor going.

Ok, I'll try this.
But I already managed to play a relativly long time without freezes after disabling steam community overlay. I'll keep you informed how things are going with both of these options.

I did a few more test. Sadly neither disabling stream overlay nor turning off secondary monitor nor playing windowed mode protects against those game freezes.

I had some success with -force-gfx-direct as comand line option. I was managing to play quite some time without freezes (usually I would have had 3 to 10 freezes in this time).
This option was also reflected in output_log.txt ("GfxDevice: creating device client; threaded=1" is missing).

Sadly the launcher does not root command line options to the episodes. So I had to make my own links to the episodes with the -force-gfx-direct option.
Perhaps you can release an update where the launcher routes the commandline options one can set in steam to the episodes.

Thanks for the suggestion! I will see about adding that to our launcher app. I'm sure there's a way to grab the command line arguments so I can pass them on.

Just wanted to let you know: I was able to finish all 4 episodes without any freezes with the -force-gfx-direct option (I forgot to start ep3 with that option and it frooze again).
Used my own shortcuts because I finished the game before the launcher update.

@jail how did you fix the freezing?
I dont have overlay steam on, its disabled, I dont have raptr, at all, and the game keeps locking up on me with no errors just have to end the task and hope the saves are recent enough
sometimes they arent and well ahh

@oldbushie and @wilco, how and what do i post in that other thread to help out on the constant freezes? (the app doesnt crash) no errors and no clue what jail is talking about unless he means to find the exe in the folder and add that line to it..

I have ati 7950 hd 4gb and no dual monitors again steam cloud disabled, ahh?

As I had written: I used the -force-gfx-direct command line option.
As far as I know, the devs added command line option handling to the launcher after my sugestion. You should be able to add that options via steam (start options).
You should see the difference in the log files, as I discribed above.

oddly i used CCC to force the options instead of auto
so far it seems to have worked but i have to check the other episodes

seems interesting

also there are issues with the refresh rate and animations, even though its set for 60hz i forced it to that
also the game log sees my vid card as only 3gb when its a 4gb vram. odd

anyway im sure the ceo(I wont name drop to much here) doesnt even remember working with me and akril in early days before PoS existed.. shrug
