Shhh no tears, only dreams now...
Also, you really should learn that games are fantasy and not feel guilty about your evil gaming deeds. People kill other people and animals day in and day out in games of all types. It's perfectly ok. Just remember that the real world is different, ok?
We separate people from animals because animals don't have a choice who to fight for, they don't know what the hell is going on, they can't defect, and they can't surrender.
People can be this way also, but that's hardly a foregone conclusion.
And none of this has anything to do with people being better that animals. That's a silly way of looking at it. People are more capable than animals, and have a responsibility to care for them. Not in games, obviously, but there's nothing wrong with being concerned about whether or not the issue is taken seriously. The way animals are treated in media does affect how they are treated in real life. Probably not in indie games, but it doesn't hurt to remain aware of it.
Just like children, which are almost *never* positioned as killable in games (eg. the cities of GTA are entirely devoid of them).
There is no fun for most people in slaughtering children and animals. The line is at adult and beast/monster normally, for precisely the reasons you list.
BUYING IT NOW.
Stanley began typing a reply into the thread. Why was there a thread here again? Did it have anything to do with the bear? Probably not. Anyway, Stanley was angry with the poster above him and started typing an angry reply questioning the sanity of the last poster.
It's certainly interesting.
Going one step further down this road - "good" vs "evil" and "us" vs "them" most people don't have a problem with the death of an "evil" or a "them" and feel it completely justified as long as someone, somewhere has labeled them as such.
