Animal Cruelty
Not a complaint, just an observation. I just bought the game, and I am having fun with it. At first, I was displeased that I would have to shoot dogs. Wolves, in particular. Then I am shooting boars. Turkeys. Bears. There are a lot of animals that get shot, enough to fill the London Zoo.

Thankfully, there's a Good/Evil sign on some of the maps that helps me to know that the animals belong to the bad guys.

You slay people and animals in this game - it's an equal opportunity slayfest. :)

Also, you really should learn that games are fantasy and not feel guilty about your evil gaming deeds. People kill other people and animals day in and day out in games of all types. It's perfectly ok. Just remember that the real world is different, ok?
well you just slay animals. idk why every1 serperates people and animals. that mind set probably contributes to the great deal of animal cruelty most people are a part of simply because they purchase non-hollistic meat. thinking of animals as something different. no one even tell me people don't do that because almost everyone i know thinks they are somehow better than other animals because, "they smart and aminals dumb dumb". i say it like that because most people who think this arnt the brightest bulbs...anyways just a thought. see u in solforge kelson!

We separate people from animals because animals don't have a choice who to fight for, they don't know what the hell is going on, they can't defect, and they can't surrender.

People can be this way also, but that's hardly a foregone conclusion.

And none of this has anything to do with people being better that animals. That's a silly way of looking at it. People are more capable than animals, and have a responsibility to care for them. Not in games, obviously, but there's nothing wrong with being concerned about whether or not the issue is taken seriously. The way animals are treated in media does affect how they are treated in real life. Probably not in indie games, but it doesn't hurt to remain aware of it.

Just like children, which are almost *never* positioned as killable in games (eg. the cities of GTA are entirely devoid of them).

There is no fun for most people in slaughtering children and animals. The line is at adult and beast/monster normally, for precisely the reasons you list.

Got FarCry 3 a week ago and I have to admit I don't enjoy killing the animals - just pixels I know but still...
You can kill animals!?

BUYING IT NOW.
Thanks, OP. You just sold me on the game. I hate animals and love to kill them. The cuter they are the better.
Stanley walked through the door on the left. There was a large bear in the room. He shot it. It felt good. Stanley suddenly wondered if the bear was real. He began to put evidence for the bear's reality into two piles in his brain (insofar as an individual can have piles in his brain, rather than piles... oh dear). Anyway. Stanley convinced himself that the bear wasn't real, mainly because one of the arguments in the "unreal" pile was that this whole conversation was being narrated by a third party in his head.

Stanley began typing a reply into the thread. Why was there a thread here again? Did it have anything to do with the bear? Probably not. Anyway, Stanley was angry with the poster above him and started typing an angry reply questioning the sanity of the last poster.

It's an interesting question: does "real" vs. "unreal" make any difference? Is there an argument "It's perfectly fine to kill children/animals in games, because it's not real."? The idea of killing a Giant Tortoise in Far Cry 3 certainly put me off, even though they are no more "endangered" in a game than are rats in a dungeon crawler.

It's certainly interesting.

Going one step further down this road - "good" vs "evil" and "us" vs "them" most people don't have a problem with the death of an "evil" or a "them" and feel it completely justified as long as someone, somewhere has labeled them as such.
