PSA: Don't use alt+tab

I used it without any problems for hour and so, switching between game and twitter client, however in particular good run (i was managed to kill shoop keeper with machete for the first time ever) when I done that and tried to return to game I had " ERROR loading texture pack" and game crashed

Just curious as to why you would need to alt-tab, the game pretty intense except between runs.

But seriously tho, I encountered this bloody error myself.
First time beating olmec, just after getting blasted out of the volcano, I alt tabbed cause I got a message, and when I alt-tabbed back, I recieved the "Error loading texture pack".
Was very annoying, since I wanted to screenshot my first time beating olmec.

Oh, and I hardly ever alt-tab when playing spelunky annyways, so its not a big issue, but obviously one that should be looked into

I can third this.
Well - I didn't receive a visible error message. I simply got a blank unresponsive screen when alt-tabbing out and back in the jungle->ice caves transition.

I also get the blank unresponisve screen, I use dual monitors so I usually always have something on my second monitor, like tweet deck or twitch or something so being able to click out of of the game is a must for me.

I have dual monitors as well.

i5 2500K and HD7870 (so I also really shouldn't have any slowdown from walking dead levels, and yet...)

Yeah alt-tabbing has made the game crash on me a few times and its glitched a hell run. My sounds also cut out after using alt-tab.

Yeah the game still crashes if you alt tab after exiting 4-4 or 5-4. It very rarely crashes from alt tab otherwise.

I tab in and out of the game a lot, leave it running in the background while I browse the web or sometimes even play other games. I've never had this problem and before now have never even heard about it.

I'd say if it happens to somebody then they probably shouldn't tab in and out of the game, but for most people it won't be an issue.

Never had any errors even tho I've alt-tabbed atleast a thousand times.

I only just bought the game, had just finished the tutorial and wanted to check on background download. Had to do tutorial over again, to open main game, lol. Won't be tabbing out of this one again then, but as far as I can tell this has been an issue for some time, and with a game as polished and popular as this one I'm surprised the isssue has not been addressed by the devs.

why alt tab? just use the window button that goes right to desktop.

There are only certain instances in which alt tabbing causes the game to crash. 99% of my alt tabs have not affected the game whatsoever. When you should avoid alt tabbing is after completing the game (ie: 4-4 and 5-4 exit) and the debrief screens in between stages. It is not something that will affect most and I wouldn't even consider it an issue. Just be wary of the possibilty.
