Spelunky

The future of spelunky?
To start: let me just say I don't own spelunky on steam. I bought it back when it became an xbox arcade game.
I just wanted to know what all was stopping people from modding the crap out of this version of spelunky. Taking a look at the free version that inspired this version of spelunky (which you can download some place or other. This version is MUCH more polished though) there are mods every which way you look.
The mods for this version of spelunky on the wiki is empty. That's insane! Part of the fun of playing spelunky was that, if you wanted to, you could play as a man eating plant and eat your enemies if you wanted to.

The original freeware game was developed with Game Maker and the source is available for free, along with the compiled, finished game. (http://www.spelunkyworld.com/original.html)

We don't have the source for Spelunky HD. The best we can do is the unpackaging/repackaging of assets that we have now. We can also modify things in memory, which is what Frozlunky does, but you won't see any actual mods besides new textures and sounds.

The Frozlunky level editor is the most community-driven Spelunky HD mod that currently exists, ( custom maps at http://spelunkybin.com ). However, its popularity has declined since release back in January. In addition to the complexity of modding the game, there's generally less publicity about modern Spelunky HD mods.
