Do you play with controller or without?

I recently bought a xbox 360 controller so I could play Dark Souls decently, so I thought it'd be a good idea to try out Spelunky with a controller aswell. However, I know it's a really odd thing to say since the original game came out for xbox 360, but I just get comfortable with the controller, even after an hour of practising with it. I had played about 50 hours with keyboard before I bought the controller with these keybindings:

Move - arrow keys
Jump - space
Sprint - shift
Whip - Z
Bomb - X
Rope - C
Buy/Door - S

So, do you guys play with controller or with keyboard?

I have a 360 controller but for the life of me I can't survive in Spelunky when I play with it. I require perfect accuracy, and I can't achieve that with a controller. The d-pad is a major pain as I constantly press down multiple buttons instead of the one I want, making me go the wrong way or jump off ladders. The analog stick is no better, it's simply too uncomfortable for me, it doesn't have enough feedback.

No, I'll save the controller for less hectic games, like adventures or turn-based strategy, and keep playing Spelunky with the keyboard :)

When I started playing Spelunky my keyboard was slowly dying, so I play using a controller. It works for me, although I have occasionally hit two buttons at once and accidentally dropped a bomb. I've since replaced my keyboard, but I haven't tried playing with keyboard controls yet.

I don't own a controller, so keyboard for me. I probably should change that seeing as I've only made it past Hell in Super Meat Boy but ah well.

I have actually beaten Super Meat Boy with keyboard and I prefer using keyboard for that aswell, though I think it plays very well with controller too. I have no idea why I find Spelunky so hard to play with controller, can't even get past the mines with it. I just fall on spikes almost everytime, even when I see them, because I feel that the controls are so weird. Not ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on Spelunky on its controls whatsoever, they just don't feel right to me when I'm using a xbox controller.

I'm using the 360 controller but having the same problems mentioned above. I get killed on ladders more than anything. Investing in a stick soon (for fighting games) and might use that for Spelunky as well, but if anyone has any controller recommendations I'd love to hear them.

360 controller's Dpad is horrible. I emulate one with x360ce so I can use a Logitech Rumblepad 2 and have none of the problem mentioned above. PS3/PS4 Dpads are also pretty good.

I tried playing it on the keyboard first, because I figured it would be more responsive, but it felt really awkward, and I had a really hard time doing precise things so I switched to my xbox 360 controller, and that works a lot better for me. I can't use the analog stick though I have to use the d pad.

I prefer a controller. I tried the keyboard but I just can't stand it. It's like the exact opposite of isaac in that regard.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll definitely check both of those controllers out.
