Can't change resolution
Why does the client close down, everytime I change to 1900 x 1200 resolution?

Okay it crashes when I change to ANY resolution. It's like I'm locked at the default resolution for some reason. Oh and I do have good PC hardware, so it's not that.
This is a real kick in the teeth. Hope it's just a demo issue, because I don't want to have to get the ps3 version, which doesn't look as good.

I'm using Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit and the demo was exiting to the desktop everytime I changed the resolution as well. Oddly there was no error message not any entry in the Event log to indicate this as a crash.

I finally managed to fix the issue by setting the CLOS2DEMO.exe in the Steam game's Bin folder to Windows 7 compatibility mode and was able to change the resolution to 1920x1200. The resolution is still set when I exit and re-run the game.

Clearly the game doesn't like Windows 8.1 on my system. Hopefully this will work for others too but if it doesn't then try setting Run as Administrator compatibility too. I noticed that the game created a MercurySteam\Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2 Demo folder in my Documents but until I used Windows 7 compatibility mode that the game.cfg file was not created as well. This file is what stores the resolution and other settings.

I'm already on windows 7 64 bit though. I tried changing compatibility to vista, but it still crashes. Oh and running as administrator does nothing. The game.cfg is absent from the folder.

Any other ideas? I'm completely stumped. Tried forcing resolution in steam settings, but it makes no difference. It is still stuck on default resolution and if I try to change it, it crashes.

Sorry I can't help. I did install DirectX from the game folder as well, which I neglected to mention, but I doubt it was that which fixed it for me. You never know though. Can't hurt to try.

Here's my Game.cfg file:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/105663038/Game.cfg

Just right-click on the URL above and save the file to your Documents > MercurySteam > Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2 (Demo) > 76561197970325332 folder. I'm not sure about the numbered folder as it may be different for everyone but it was created by the game so it should exist for you.

Run the game and hopefully with that file you'll be running at 1920x1200.

OKay, that doesn't seem to work. Anybody got any other ideas?
This is extremely frustrating now. I'd like to think it's just a demo problem, but I don't want to buy the game, if it is going to do the same thing.

If the display resolution in the game doesn't match your desktop resolution. It won't stick.

Unless you are then I don't know. Have you tried setting the demo resolution in /mydocuments/mecurysteam/lords of shadow 2 demo/game.cfg and then setting that file as read only?
Cant play the game higher than 720 p ...:(

Oh, I know it's not that, I had it higher earlier....

I don't think this has anything to do with 7/8/8.1, but I do have an interesting note...I had this glitch the first time I loaded the demo(the exact same symptoms, no error or any log on crash)....after that I loaded the game up again, and it worked...so it's definitely something more....erratic.

I don't have a game.cfg file for some reason.

I tested downloading the file to my Downloads folder from the link I posted last night and it save a copy of the Game.cfg file there, [MoX]Morosi, so are you saying you couldn't even do that? From your post it sounds like you left-clicked on the link instead of right-clicked.

You don't have the Game.cfg because the demo bugs out before it can write the file to the folder I stated above; at least that is what appears to happen as the resolution and settings should be saved when you go back out of the Video options.

However, changing the compatibility mode worked for me and I was finally able to play the game at 1920x1200. Hopefully this issue will be fixed for the final release as it evidently affects both Windows 8.1 and Windows 7. It could be a permissions conflict or something to do with the location of the Documents folder. Is your Documents file on another partition other than the C: drive by any chance?

Windows is on a different drive (C:) to my game installation (G)
