----

So here you are wanting to play Thief and instead, when you move on to a new area, you're loaded back into the same area. What the Trickster's ♥♥♥♥ is going on here?

It seems to be a bug that triggered on the 1st of April...

How to solve it (works for myself and a bunch of other people):

1 - Backups are always good - so backup your saves first! Go to "...\Steam\userdata\<account_number>\239160\" and backup the remote folder. (It should have some *.sav files in it)

2 - Set your system time to something other than April 1st. April 8th seems to work best for some reason. (For me April 2nd worked too.).

Alternate version of step 2:

3 - Enjoy playing thief.

4 - Remember to set your system time back after you're done playing Thief!

Notes:

This doesn't seem to work for everyone!! If it doesn't work for you, backup your saves, wait, and pray for the Builder to protect your saves I guess.

The clock solution working or not seems to be unrelated to the operating system. Some people with windows 8 have reported it working and some people with windows 7 have reported it not working. (I'm running windows 7 and it worked for me)

Yea, it's a bad aprils fools joke.

If it is indeed a joke, I'd think it was sneaked in by some taffer developer. I doubt the whole studio would think this would be a good idea.

Doesn't work for me.. hope it'll be fixed soon

What operating system are you both using? I wonder what makes the date change work for some people and not for others and I'm thinking OS might be a factor?... (I'm running Windows 7 Professioanl myself)

Edit: On the Eidos forums there's someone having the Save issue on the Xbox One too. http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?t=142855

I want a refund. What are the odds I'll get one?
*Evil Vasile Apr 1, 2014 @ 2:21am
Slim. As far as I know Steam as a service gives you only one refund and that's it.

So I guess if you really want a refund now you could get it by pestering the Steam Support enough...

I'm stuck in the clock tower because of this glitch! I spawn on the lower floor, head upstairs, watch or skip the cutscene with the Beggar Queen then use the window. After the Loading screen, I'm back at the clock tower spawn point and I have to see the Beggar Queen cutscene again!

I have Windows 8.1 Professional x64.

And by the way; This "one-time refund" thingy is just not true.

Steam is getting refunds(!) if you're not able to start the game or some other heavy technical issue.

But this only affects if you bought a game directly on Steam, and you gettin the money back to your steam wallet, no matter how you bought it

I don't think that's true. Officially that's what Steam says, but so long you have a legitimate and valid reason, and pester enough, you can get more than that.

I can confirm it doesn't work.

How come it works for you?

I have W 8.0.

I'm on windows 7 home premium, i'll try your new solution later today!
*Evil Vasile Apr 1, 2014 @ 2:43am
Well, so far the time change thing seems to work on windows 7 and not windows 8...

Maybe Windows 8 has some additional time synchronization thing?

Maybe Thief gets the date somehow differently in Windows 8?
