Receding Horizons Quest; Where is the imperial watchtower?
Edwin (Found in Seahaven) wants me to escort him to the imperial watchtower. According to the journal the watchtower is to be found in Menthil Coast on the west side of the peninsula. I have uncovered practically the entire map, but I can't find this darn watchtower. Does anybody have the coordinates or know the general location?

too access the menthil coast you need the air shard (btw you should keep edwin as long as possible he gives you 10% kill xp)

If I ever find it, I intend to *avoid* it so i can keep my +10% XP hireling. ;-)

Edwin is arguably the best "hireling" in the game. Picking him up early and keeping him (and spike the dog) in your party for literally the entire game will net you LEVELS worth of extra XP. In a game with no respawns he and again Spike the Dog are the only two hirelings worth using. Ever.

Additionally there is another "scholar" hireling in the game in Karth but you have to pay him 10% of all your gold you find.... Edwin takes nothing and costs nothing. Do the math.

I'd rather take Aonbarr (the horse) than the dog, I love the extra inventory space.

Spike the dog can only find secrets, which is the same as casting the whispering secrets spells anyway.

But some of us are lazy... just like me.^^
Also the +25% chance does reduce the lenghty save/reload times before those pesky perseption secrets because nobody likes to spend points there. xD

True. xD

and some of us don't want to be forced to take a freemage, which is the only class able to take shadow magic, and well... pretty much useless aside from that. And I never liked taking a class just for a novice spell. :)

A couple of thoughts:

First let me say part of the fun is the variety of playing styles so no harm no fowl if you do it differently.

1. Perception is a must have skill mostly for the abilty to hit (attack rating). If not you will get blocked or miss often and many of the bosses get extra attacks or buffs when you miss. Also some of the secret walls use perception to open so it is not just finding the secret...

2. I loaded the freemage with air, magical focus and primordial. By the end of the game my air AOE attacks were hitting for 600+ on a regular basis. nothing better to thin mobs that wiping then out with chain lightning or cyclone.

Anyhow have fun with the game and play how you like...

I wouldn't put any points into Perception unless it's a ranged character. Cause you get a TON of attack rating from going grandmaster in any weapon you choose to use. The +1 attack rating / point into perception seams like a waste to me.

I would much rather take 3-4hp, 3 mana, 0.25% crit+1 evade or 2% damage instead.

On a bow or x-bow man however, it's probably a good idea as you get a penalty for shooting stuff in melee range... you know the range you spend 99% of all combat in ^^;

I like going for perception on my tank, as missing isn't an option when taking aggro. Another option is to go for a multiple hit weapon but having a character than can easily deal with perception checks is obviously good.

I also give some perception to my dual dagger wielders but not much. Reason is I usually pick daggers with procs and in this case lots of successful weak hits is better than less but more powerful ones. Also might has diminishing return. I still like destiny more in this case though.

Obviously on a two-hander it's a big waste as you can use the novice warfare power to make sure you hit even with very poor attack rating. Works only for the first hit but, hey, you are two-handed.

Oh, and almost no matter what 2 vitality / level for EVERYONE. I found the game hard until I started doing that.
