Contagion - Update May 11th :: Steam Workshop & Contagion Panic Game-Modes
Our Contagion Steam Workshop is finally out allowing users to publish their maps and other mods! Be sure to check our Contagion WIKI[www.contagion-game.com] and visit our Mapping & Modding discussions to share your work before publishing! Worth mentioning we will be adding in an in-game store later for the freelancers, those looking to step into that world, or those who've honed their skills allowing for Unofficial content to be sold (so long as no one is infringing on anyone's work) and possibly including work for Official content (no eta on this just yet).

Which is a perfect combination with our newly released (WIP) much demanded and recently added ZPS inspired "Panic" Game-Modes which right now are working on edited versions of existing maps especially with all the talk of porting maps over via workshop. This does not replace ZPS but we're hoping our veterans will step in and help us in quickly balancing it out. We're looking for enthusiasts in this regard to post in our Panic Specific Discussion

More has been added and more is being added with CE_Biotec nearly done and looking at an early release next month as well as much more every month. There will be balancing and fixes on anything we catch but as you can see we've even improved hit-box code! We are always listening both good & bad and even when we can't see it ourselves we rely on your eyes and comments.

Here is today's updates!

May 11th Update - Changelog

  • Added Contagion Steam Workshop and full in-game addon publishing support.
  • Added Panic Classic and Objective game-modes.
  • Added Panic game-mode to pre-existing maps (look forward to seeing your published maps).
  • Added Riot Zombie as Player Controlled main zombie for Panic game-modes.
  • Added Riot Zombie first-person hand textures.
  • Added New Zombie Player HUD.
  • Added Golf-Club Kick-starter weapon. (Designed by backer, available to all)
  • Added Player Zombie 'Command' ability to control a horde that is following you.
  • Added Survivor breathing sounds when sprinting.
  • Further optimisation to hit-box code to try improve on current system.
  • Fixed random survivor changing per round.

I'm glad to see the update Tatsur0. So in my previous post on this topic here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/238430/discussions/11/558754899633429024/

I asked how others(strangers) can download my custom content when joining my server. Once I publish to workshop and host a dedicated server, do I need to add anything in the server.cfg or a startup parameter (possibly with the workshop ID?) so it auto directs players to the workshop of the custom content or does it simply just know through the addon?

Other concerns:

Say I have multiple custom maps...

Will these all be downloaded even if we are currently on an official map?

If not, when we changelevel, will it know to direct players to the workshop for the custom maps/content or simply crash?

Upon join, will all addons that the server is running be downloaded at once, even if those addons aren't currently in play?

If I recall, you'll need to publish your work or direct those playing to the workshop to subscribe like others.

So if I connect to a server without the proper addon or map, it does not auto-direct to the workshop? Because currently it crashes to desktop which seems inconvenient for casual/newbie players. I just want to know if this will be a final thing or you guys are looking for methods to distribute directly through server like with ZPS.

Else the only other way I see it is we need to spam "GO TO WORKSHOP AND DOWNLOAD XXXXX BEFORE CONNECTING!!!!!" in the server title.

Do more code optimization, especially how it uses memory. Game should not require that huge usage of RAM.

Daimyo: Workshop and old server options are two different things. We have and will look into it as I feel there should be more convenience. Before it had no message, had to add it.

Porkinson: We're always optimizing but I'm sorry 4gb is our minimum but we know some play with 2gb but won't support it cause our game pushes harder than quite a few AAA titles currently out as well as all of Valves as we heavily modified the engine.

Tatsur0, can't you do like Garry did on Garry's Mod, or Tripwire did for Killing Floor? Get the workshop items when connecting to the server. Its a lot better, and then you can just link the content to a workshop collection, it saves time and new players won't have any issues. Its a bit crap that most games with Workshop don't have this feature since its needed for online play, since people will complain.

So you added the Golf club. How do you get it? Is it just a normal weapon in the game? or is it only for kickstarters?

There are many obstacles but as I've said I'm looking into making all our features and options as convenient as possible. We don't just toss it out there and expect you all to just accept. We will do what WE can do :)

It was designed by a Kickstarter backer who backed us and was rewarded with the option to design a melee weapon. It is for everyone to use however so it's like other melee weapons you find and pick up in game.
