Anybody really use melee?
Been trying to beat this game for a bit, and my strategy seems to always come down to
a) Steal A spell book
b) Summon Stuff
c) Hide in a door way.

This makes me feel a little sad as it feels the only way to progress is to cheese out, and never use melee weapons. So, every so often I'll find a cool melee weapon to never be used.

Anybody else feelin this way?
Or am I missing some advanced skill method of whacking things in later levels?

The benefit of melee is that it gets significantly more powerful the more you level, while casting stays at the same power.

Seeing as this games not the most serious out there are there any items or plans on making the combat at least have a more epic/crazy appearance? simple particle effect/ lighting trickery for example. Proper timing of hitting with a stick only goes so far even with a cat on head. Melee combat also just tends to be weird due to the action happening at time of button release but I understand the design decision I think.

The game is more or less finished. There are crazy items in the game. :andmyaxe:

Then I suppose if the game is almost done, the question begs..
Are there plans for a sequel?

Cause overall, I have enjoyed playing it and the concept. I just want more. =D
(and the discussion was more cause this board was a little quiet.)

We are planning a sequel (open world with many dungeons! online multiplayer!)
However, we've got something else we felt the need to create first... Expect some news next month :)

Looking forward to the sequel, except for the the online muliplayer. Will there be a finely tuned single player experience?

THIS is great news!!!!
PS
Will you allow the sequel to have single player mode? If so, will receive similiar attention or are you primarily looking at online multiplayer? I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a strong single player game with equally strong online multiplayer options!

The sequel will probably also be single player... (its a ways off yet o_o)

To Cap'n: I really truly have high hopes of you making this game available for online muliplayer. This game is tons of fun and keeps me coming back for more, also there is so much beauty in the way each run you have seemingly falls apart when you die. All around AWESOME! to say the least. Thanks for such a great game!

The other reason to fight melee is you get more experience when you collect the orbs before they hit the ground. or is it before they hit something solid? In any case, picking up xp after minions finish something off makes for slower level progression. Best to have a weapon with a long reach if you want to take on some of the tougher boss mobs though.

(oh, and just to add.. the reason I initially purchased this game was it was one of the few games in Steam that had Controller Couch Play.) Steam is totally lacking casual multiplayer couch games.

The real problem with melee is that going close means you have a much better chance to be hit, whereas summoning minions or shooting particles will keep you safe, even if it'll take a long time to kill. It's the main complaint I have about this game (other than saves, which are being taken care of).
