"I'm sorry! I'll plan ahead next time I promise! No more!"
Thanks for the info I'll plan accordingly as I venture forth. "Let's get dangerous!"
If you threw ALL your items on the ground, you could, go on a killing spree.
To be more specific, if you place all your items in a treasure chest, what exactly will you drop? Will you drop your armour? What exactly is it that you can drop, and will there be a point in which you will drop everything including armour and jetpacks... and in such an event, what happens to your avatar; it will be a newbie once again?
I need to test that myself...
I just speak in the point of view of someone who might want to exploit all opportunities the game gives you, to get away with things that would otherwise take someone else hours to achieve. It is possible to run away from enemies and fly far, before you're caught and even get upgrades that are not confined to a closed cavity. I think a lot...
---
Make lots of Laser Picks, and go, no penalty whatsoever... as long as you can dodge monsters that is.
---
As a side note: I wish I had known this when I was a newbie because I believed the pod penalty would actually wipe my items for good, but if you're not wearing armour; all you have to do is go back to pick up what you dropped... live and learn =/
I really hope that eventually there will be a way to set difficulty level in the game. Hopefully the dev can please everyone and let us, the average gamers, play the game without getting overly frustrated or turned off by, shall I say extremely difficult tasks.
I mean I've really seen some dudes performing all kinds of stunts with some games you are tempted to believe they're cheating; but they're not.
Originally though, I believed that "losing your items" due to the cryorod penalty was just a way for the dev to be extra, extra cruel. I am glad to know all you have to do is go back to where your items may have dropped. Providing you didn't get killed in mid-air.
---
A good way to avoid people abusing this system is by allowing the number of cryorods to drop under 0 for example. -1, -2, that way you would need to replenish those later, it makes it a certainty that you will not be able to advance in game this way. (as long as your cryorod count is negative you wont be able to use decent armour, have great weapons, etc.) The way it is now all a user has to do is get the materials and make cryorods and they're as good as new.
This would not be designed for legitimate gamers who want to play the game properly, as we would not allow a negative number on a cryorod. =)
But at the end of the day, dropping items is really not a "punishment" because it:
-Depends on the item/s in question
-If the character has an empty inventory there is nothing to lose.
In Terraria you "can't" run away from enemies WHY?...
Exactly, YOU CAN'T FLY!
But in EoS you can fly from the start! Which means if you learn to dodge and weave enemies as long as you have an open path to get ALL your upgrades who needs armour, really?
Laugh all you want, but soon there will be people thinking Edge of Space is super easy as long as you have a well built avatar who can do all the work for all the others. Cryorods are only necessary on your master cryopods. If you're religious with storing items in treasure chests.
