SOLVED - Game not starting on Asian language systems

So I've been having issues with a couple of Steam games where they would either crash on start or just not start at all. Turns out the problem is, unbelievably, that my IME was set to Microsoft IME 2010 and some games don't like that. You have to change to either just MIcrosoft IME or Office IME, but Microsoft IME 2010 will not work for System Shock 2. Hope this helps someone, took me ages to find out.
