Time limit Main quest?
How harsh is the main quest time limit?

Is it on par with Fallout 1? When does it start? Before or after the Old Bailey quest?

Sorry for the blizzard of questions but I want to know how much time I have to play with before I am screwed. It is all fine and good to add new quests (the dlc) but if I have to sprint to do the main why bother.

Thanks for any advice.

In the old version, that limit wasn't that bad. At least I think most never encountered it.
Somewhere on this forum one of the developers mentioned the date when the invasion will take place. I don't remember exactly what it is, but you have plenty of time. At least two winters, and probably three before you run out of time. As for when the clock starts and what starts running it, I think it may be independant of any actions that you take (as it should be because it represents a big world event acting on its own logic).

Press F1 to bring up the help, if not inside a temple or similar. There should be an entry that tells you the exact date when your time is up. It's more than enough time actually.

I finished the game by visiting all known dungeons. I traveled a lot to find also hidden "easter-eggs". I also traveled a lot to gather herbs and ration (to get extra gold). I also spent tremendous time by traveling between dungeons and towns to sell all loot. I travelled between Prem and Thorwal by ships a lot (as I wanted to board the cursed ship) ... so I did spend a lot of time (as ingame so my own) to finish the quest... I saved it before the final battle... then I loaded it, and avoiding the final battle to get the "let the orcs invade Thorwal" achievement ... so I aimlessly travelled around Arkania ... and I did not trigger the "Orcs invaded.." I got so bored, that I gave up...
In short: it is harder to fail the main quest via "timeout" than actually completing it. :)

Date + Time is shown when you hover with the mouse pointer over the day/night symbol in upper left corner.

Oddly enough it seems as if the year advances yearly, but seemingly at random, rather than when the Ethra equivalent of December changes into the equivalent of January.. Maybe their year ends at a different date in a different season? Anyone know?

I think the usual way in that setting is a year change in the summer. After Rahja come the five Nameless Days and then the new year starts with Praios.
Don't know if that has been implemented this way though.

That seems to be correct actually, I had a year change from 1008 to 1009 some time in summer around Rahja, wasn't sure though. Thanks for clearing that up! It'll help with planning time.. :D
I really wish there were a way of consulting a basic calendar in-game, perhaps through the help menu. It really does me no good to know that a market is open on the second Wind Day of the month if I can't remember which day of the week Wind Day actually is.
If I remember correctly, you've got about a year and a half, and that's plenty.

You should have 2.5 years normally due to warning stated in Help. But then I have never attempted to cross the time limit specifically.

Year and half is too short with the new overland movement speed :P
In original it was more then enough , cause in 1 year you could move 4x time over the whole map .

As urartu said, it is 2 (in words: TWO) and a half years, to be precise it is 1013 Days and 11 Hours. You could still move four times across the whole map and still not be anywhere near the timelimit.

That's true, I've dunnit. X)
Thank you for all your replies. I'm feeling a bit reassured. :)
