Keen Eye is probably the best overall trait for any damage dealer. Basically you do 7% more damage against anything but a civilian (who will die in 1 or 2 hits anyway). Its REALLY nice against heavily armored soldiers, for obvious reasons.
Bloodthirsty is nice for soldiers and necessary for scouts. I make a lot of flank shots with level two soldiers thanks to stun, and scouts should be able to pull off flanks with ease. I'd say about 75% of the time I am making flank attacks.
Sexist is very good for female characters. 75% of characters are male, and +10% damage to 75% of the population is amazing for a trait.
I'd estimate these traits add (making a very rough estimate) 7% to damage each.
If you are using a soldier heavy team (or like me, all soldiers) Strider isn't a terrible idea to get certain objectives. I'd usually rather do more damage though.
Rangers
Walk your shots is great if you use multiple rangers. With three veteran rangers pouring out rapid shots... just ew.
Point Blank shot is useful if you have a soldier to stun the enemy or a fully kitted soldier who can "guard" the hunter.
Sharp Shooter.. I'm not sure of the math on it, but it doesn't seem to pump accuracy that much.
Obviously, Keen Eye to start, Sexist for women.
Scholars / Doctors
Well, I don't use scholars, but I do occasionally throw in doctors. Obviously, you want defensive traits for them since they can't do damage to save their life.
Use sword and shield is one of the better options. That shield gives a 25% chance of blocking 25% of the damage (I think), which is pretty good for characters who have no mitigation to begin with.
bloodthirsty only lasts 1 round when incappitating an enemy. I would preffer permanent bonus like the 5meele def or 10 endurance for a meele character. But otherwise i agree with the other passives
I forgot block (+5 defense in melee). Its kind of crap as a low level promotion, but I'd take it on a fully upgraded officer. Defense is more useful the more you have.
On an LT, you end up with 25(Base) + 20 (Equiptment) + 20 (Promotions) = 70 Melee Defense unless I missed something. At that point, block is reducing the damage you take in melee by about 15%.
I think I got bloodthirsty mixed up with something else. What one grants a bonus to flanking attacks?
Thanks for the correction on the gender numbers, Jonas,
Sneak Attack. It rocks for scouts and soldiers alike.
