Steam Integration is Flawed: Steam Shows as Constantly Playing Plawyclaw / No Downloads.
So I took the plunge and purchased Playclaw. So far so good, except Steam constantly shows me as in "Playclaw", no matter what game I play after launching, no one on my friends list knows what game I'm playing and subsequently cannot join.

Edit: Downloads fail to start / complete when Playclaw is running as Steam assumes you are playing a game and pauses them for you.

Any way to disable this (or get a stand alone version)?

Sadly no. You could run the game first then launch PlayClaw, otherwise all you we can do is complain to Steam.

That's a shame. Kinda feels like I've wasted money on the Steam version when the "hardcore" standalone version would be much better for use with Steam.
Petekaboo 16 września 2013 o 11:24
Yeah, but the downside of the standalone version would be yearly upgrade fee.

I know. That's the only drawback. The software itself seems to be very well made and seems to function really well.

Have you tried vice versea? As launching the game then playclaw? Not sure how well it will work though
Chocolate Chin 19 września 2013 o 5:10
Yeah. Tried that. It works to an extent. (few problems joining peoples games and such).
It's not ideal, as I would like to have playclaw always running for the PVR features.

EASY!!! FIRST start the Game and THEN PlayClaw!
Chocolate Chin 19 września 2013 o 9:39
As mentioned. It works to some degree. There are still problems joining peoples games. Plus when you quit, playclaw takes over as the game that shows as playing in steam, meaning I would have to quit playclaw after I quit every game.

While I know this isn't that much of a big deal in the grand scheme of things, it's enough to make me not start playclaw so I don't have to keep messing about with it.

Yes BUT some people don't want to Alt-Tab EVERY TIME start a game.
And some people runs PlayClaw in Windows startup and running it all the time, so....

This is an issue that needs to be addressed. Many games that people want to record, myself included, are experiencing the joining/inviting friends problem. Even when I launched Playclaw after alt + tab from my game, the steam overlay showed that Playclaw took priority as the "game" I was playing, even though it was launched after my game.

Hmm, I guess this is why Mirillis postponed their Steam release of Action.

Indeed. Steam is the wrong platform for these type of apps.

I was going to say this is probably a Steam issue but after some testing consider me jumping into the 'Fix it!' bandwagon here.. It shows as playing on Steam even when you launch it directly from it's folder and skip steam altogether... That means Steamworks has been integrated far more tightly into the application than it should be, if it's informing steam it's running even when steam didn't launch it.

It could still be dealt with by addressing it to Steam, though... Just by requesting that the Steam Application not list 'Software' as being played, or even better allow users to selectively pick which programs Steam will pay attention to and which it will just ignore.

If I'd known it was going to do something silly like this I'd have never bought the Steam version. Some games I play will crash if I try to ALT-TAB out of them so now I have to make a choice between fully working multiplayer or recording video.

I have a few similar issues. I would happily swap my Steam version for the non-Steam version. I have asked this, but it's a no go. :(
