This or Emulator?

I noticed that the reviews for this were a mix. So is it better to just download an arcade emulator... which is free?

Emulator. This has a disgusting input lag in almost all games.

This is also an emulator. At least you can play for real with a licensed game with real score board

My opinion on this is that the achievements and leaderboards are fun to play with on this compilation but ultimately playing on MAME long term for scoring outside of the original arcade experience, is the next best choice.

I also 100 % agree with Proto on the input lag which is a real problem.
