Reliably executing a guard break/jump attack?
Playing on a controller (Xinput based, of course), and I am stumped. I cannot figure the exact timing for a guard break/jump attack for the life of me. I could do them with ease in Dark Souls 1, but here it seems like the timing window is way too tight.

Hopefully From will patch this at some point, because if Guard Breaks/Jumps are meant to be major combat moves, they need to be something you can easily, and reliably execute. Right now I can't do them for the life of me.

I agree, the jump attack is a little easier to pull out but I mostly endup doing a normal R2 attack instead of juming attack, and the guard break is the MOST important and new move in Dark Souls 2 and its hella hard to pull out thats so very true, I hope they rearange it as well, I don't think its that random on consoles

I agree the window is way too tight, hopefully this gets looked at.

It just takes practice.

Yeah, been practicing nonstop, and I'm just not getting it. It seems like you need to hit R1/RB right as you move the stick forward, but I only succeed every now and then.

Glad it's not just me. Started up DS1 and was able to do both moves every time, no sweat. DS2, on the other hand, i feel like I'm breaking my controller to execute the move, and even then it might not work.
Hopefully this is on the to-do list. It might not be priority number one with all the crashes and such, but it should be looked at.

It's a bug, it works at 30 fps.

It can be tricky to do even on the console versions. Controls for dark souls can be a bit wonky on the whole.

Game like this needs arcade fighter style controller response.

Strangely enough, changing my controller has made a huge difference. I was using a Logitech pad, one of the ones that can be Dinput or Xinput. I switched to my Dualshock 4 using DS4Tool and suddenly I have no problems at all. Weird.

Have no problems whatsoever

Yep I am having similar problems (360 pad). Have had no issues with doing jump attacks/kicks guard breaks in previous souls games (on pc and ps3) but something just doesnt seem to be working in this one. Been practising a lot but only seem to be able to execute the jump attack on very rare occasions.

I hope its a bug and easily fixed.

mash the button combo for it over and over again until you die or it works. it's really the only way since the command for that crap is awful.

You should be hitting up on the left stick and weak attac(for guad break) or strong attack(jump attack) at the same time.

I can do as many as I want when I want with a 360 controller(Xinput) also at 60fps.

After playing a few more hours, I seem to land these attacks more often when fighting an enemy. I'm still not landing it 100% of the time, but more often than when I'm practicing.
I dunno what that's about, but I still think it's more fickle than the first game.

I have the same problem though, everytime in DS1, can hardly ever hit it in DS2

If you're using mouse then you have to take the latency into account.
There's about 0.2 seconds latency between the click and the start of the action.
