tech missions

I thinking that certian tech shouldnt be researched. I am thinking for excample for the stargate tech you find a partial destroyed gate but need hints how to use it but is random among the stars. There would be like hints in the mission on where to go to dig or to contact. I am thinking this could start off say like mars or so after you colonize it at the starting missions and awhile you are tracking this one you find other tech missions a long the way such as terraforming and etc.
