2. Orbit the planet or go to the system and from the Galaxy Map click order Invade (you can also manually transfer troops on the planet panel)
3. Click Turn, after tactical phase it will trigger the invasion
Note that you can't invade defended planets, you need to destroy their defenses first. Obviously this means being at war with them.

i don't know if it works only for me but i noticed a thing
use many ground troops is useless
after you have destroyed the orbital defenses (ships, stabase etc) you can attck the planets with your ships. attacking the soldiers on the planet with fusion bomb or other massive destruction weapons is very effective
after the orbital bombing usually the are not remaining enemy soldiers and you can invade a planet with 1000 or 2000 soldiers
