Uplay crashing on startup
Anyone else having this issue? I got a key with my new video card, dealt with the fiasco this morning of the game not being availible, and now no matter what I do, uplay crashes as soon as I try to open the program.

Yeah, I'm having it too. Uplay launcher crashes upon starting the game. Uninstalling and reinstalling it doesn't work, trying to run the game in offline mode doesn't work, trying to bypass the launcher by running the game's exes separately only launches steam, which then launches uplay, which then crashes. I've even tried a few command line parameters I found to bypass uplay that worked for Far Cry 3 and they don't work either. I'm fairly annoyed but I'm just gonna set it aside and accept that I probably can't play until they release the 1.8gb patch on steam too. Hopefully after that...

Seriously, does anyone know what the deal with this is? I got it running earlier, took a break, and now Uplay won't open again. I've tried a complete uninstall and reinstall of Uplay (being sure to remove the additional files), and it just won't launch.

Upon further examination, it seems like the recent change of Uplay to 3.0+ is what's causing all this. Older versions of Uplay work, until you update it and then it crashes again. This explains how I was able to play and finish Assassin's Creed 3 back in May (pre-3.0 update).

Also, rumours are that the game's playable with a crack to bypass Uplay's launcher but obviously this is not a recommended solution. Ubisoft, this kind of incompetence is embarrassing. What's worse, I can't log on to your forums with my Uplay account to report the crash report in the Uplay technical forums because it gives me the ever helpful:

"Something went wrong, please try again later. If this problem persists please contact our administrators. "

Something went wrong, indeed. Just about as vague as why your crap launcher isn't working any more either.

A developer recently sticked info that the patch was included in the steam release, so I guess the hope that this issue was fixed with the patch is out the window. I suppose our only hope now is that the same developer will see this thread...

I'm going to bed now and then to work after that so I'll be away for like nearly a day. In the hopes that some sort of person from Ubisoft responsible for compiling problems like this is around and can do something with it, here's my crash report - the same report you ask for on the technical support forums for Uplay.

Problem signature:

OS is Windows 7, game is obviously not applicable since Uplay itself doesn't launch at all. What I've tried is listed above.

So... I restarted my pc and it worked suddenly

That's good news. It didn't work for me, but if this is going to be one of those cheeky issues that randomly works and doesn't work whenever it feels like, that's probably even worse news. Maybe I'll luck out tomorrow night too though :\

Well, decided to stay awake a bit longer and experiment a bit more and it's working for me too. Here's what I did:

- I uninstalled Uplay entirely. ***It leaves files behind! Go to your \program files (x86)\ folder and delete the Ubisoft folder there completely. This was necessary for me to do***
- I restarted my computer (had to do this too, no restart after removal/installation did nothing for me before)
- I re-installed Uplay using the installer found on Uplay's website.
- After installation, I restarted again.
- I launched the game through Steam and after about a minute, Uplay finally came up without crashing and updated itself.
- Exit Uplay.
- Re-launch the game through Steam again, and now you can input your key to activate it.

I'm now logged into Uplay with the game registered. Seriously, this is some kind of backwards fiddling to get a game working. Hopefully this works for others with this probem.

Or maybe it's just a fiddly garbage launcher if it doesn't work for you. In that case, I feel your pain.

I really would appreciate it if Steam would disclose when logins and launchers outside of Steam will be required.

Well, this actually worked. This should be posted everywhere people are having this problem. Thank you! I spent two months fighting with this error and you fixed it. Awesome!

Awesome find! The game is working for me as well now. Thanks a lot! Would have given a +1 if I could. :) :d2invoker:

I hate UPlay so much. DL speeds are so slow. But, you can't complain about free.

Is their a fix for the slow DL or is UPlay just crap T_T.
Crix Dec 23, 2013 @ 4:07pm
This is why I don't even bother with games that require other DRM on top of DRM to play. Uplay is just crap. I had a horrible time when FC3 came out.

So basically all of you want an invite to the ever-growing "No More uPlay" Steam Group?
egonprint Dec 24, 2013 @ 1:29am
Does Steam even care about this problem or do they just waiting for Ubisoft?
