Turrets... am I missing something?

Hey guys, you know the little extras that the Tactical suit is supposed to use... like placables (turrets and mines)...
I cant seem to be able to place them... I have them assigned to key 1 and 2... (havent unlocked my 3rd yet... I hold down the 1 or 2 key expecting to be placed (like useing the E key for special actions) and nothing happens.
What am I missing here? Nothing is shown on the pittiful one page pdf provided.

The default Special Ability key (like the shield that the heavy has) is Mouse 2. To deploy a turret, hold down the right mouse button and you'll get the placement indicator. Then you hit 1 or 2 or 3 to deploy the applicable item. Hold down RMB and press Space to undeploy stuff (like if you need to move out)
